I am purchasing some gear from the USA and I thought an EFT would be easy. The comany has provided me with details of a routing number, a swift code and and account number for wiring money. I tried to see if my online banking service would accept these numbers in the BSB section, but there are too many digits. I assume this method they are suggesting is for Western Union or a similar wire service. Any ideas out there? I might have to reactivate my PayPal account!
Hey mate, i would assume its a western union type of transfer.. You can go in to western union and do it but I reckon paypal is the easiest way. I pretty much bought a 67 mustang and all the parts using paypal from the states
I'm always cautious of electronic transfers, especially internationally where you may have trouble using the law to solve grievances. They also get to see your bank account number, correct? Can you send them a money order from a bank that exists in both countries? A credit card would be my second choice, even if it is linked to a bank account (ATM card). Western Union would charge you a fee, but would at least be secure. And to think we all want to get our hands on a Holden...
I've used my CBA Netbanking to do an international transfer to the UK (via SWIFT). They charge you a largish fee to send an the receivers bank charge them a fee to receive. I was doing stuff with lawyers in UK, so they passed the receiving charge back onto me as well. Was quick though, same day allowing for time difference. I reckon Paypal would be the go.
I sent money to the US using Paypal E Check. I think it cost $5 instead of around $100 in normal PP fees. Takes 3-5 days to clear.

Xr man I just went through same issue. In fact I bought a new bike via an online fx transfer business called hifx. Simply put it was so easy and they transfer the funds very quickly. Try hifx.com.au. Cost only $15 aud per transfer. Ppal is ok but people your paying get raped on charges - close to 10%. This is what I bought:
Did a CBA international transfer to Croatia recently, they charge $22 this end but dont mention the $45 you get stung out of the transfer amount at the other end, had to do two transfers to balance the bloke at the other end up?:huh Beware.
This actually not necessarely true. I believe there are different options for transferring money. I transferred a couple of thousend $$ from the US to Poland. I selected euro amount to be send to the recipient and he got the full amount while I selected for the fees to be paid by me. The total fee came to something like US$10. That is it, no other fees to me or the recipient. KP
i trransfered 1k only a few weeks ago to US ...cost me 998 bucks i think from AUD to US ..sent as a gift ..with a 10 buck charge to me and no charge to the other party oh and it was instant ... i been using paypal for over 7 yrs trouble free
Point proven - at similar time I got 1.02 using hifx. You got charged 4% on exchange. (paypals spread is more like 4%).Plus you paid them another $10 lol!!! For a commercial PayPal seller the fees are large hence why there are a lot of eBay transactions off PayPal. More than a few grand and it adds up. Small transactions PayPal is fine. Large and it sux
