1st Ill show the install. The kit. Yup, that's what I though too. "Thats it" ? Remove old shield and remove headlight bolts. Also remove ALL rubber nuts from entire windscreen bracket and intall 4 of them back into the new support as shown in instructions Mount new support and install headlight bolts. I locktite mine. New support installed Follow instructions for mounting. Its easy. Now install Darths helmet, ah, I mean install the fairing. 4 screws going into the 4 rubber oem nuts. Next install the 2 brackets on the windscreen. Follow instructions, it's easy. And the finished product. In the up position No tools required to adjust Is it overpriced ? You need to ask that ? :huh Way over priced. So far what you get for the $810 admission price is a super cool, unique look. Initial thoughts: For that kind of money the support bracket could have been made of aluminum and not steel. I think anyway. Lighter. But I'm no engineer. Good quality and excellent fit. I'll take it out to road test it's ability to deflect wind next. Next being tomorrow.
Looks good, thanks for the pics and video I had the exact same one on the 1200GS. i loved it.. way over priced... will be selling it in the Flea market..
That rocks! What are your thoughts on being able to mount GPS/Spot etc on the inside of the fairing. Is it only supported by the headlight bolts? Thanks for getting this up.
Looks Good Frank. How solid is the mount. I am sure you'll let us know after the test drive. THX George
George, its very solid. There will be no issues there. I gotta go now, wife giving me the eye...............
Oh really? Luck you!! Looks good! I imagine you could run it without the windscreen if you wanted to, yes?
Not that eye ! The "it's time to go to church" eye. I want to also say Touratech USA is terrific. Kimo is the go to man there. They dont set the prices, that's done in da fatherland of course. But TT USA has always been nothing but great with me. Ill post more pics soon, including ones from the cockpit. But, right now, I really like it. It looks very cool, and I'm not easily impressed ! I'm just hoping for it to be able to deflect highway speed wind properly. In the low position, it looks spot on for offroad work. Yeti, yes, you could. Fairing only too.
Oh, bummer for you. I'll be getting that look in about an hour. When you take some more pictures, would you take one from the side (and front 3/4) that shows the whole bike? I'm trying to get a perspective of the overall look on the bike. (Good thing you have the same color bike I do! )
Damn you, Frank! I was almost hoping it would suck, and I'd have a good reason for hanging on to my money. But the combination of better highway comfort (if it turns out that way), and the ability to easily position it for off-road riding may be too much to resist. Now, where's that VISA? David
I'll take it outside and take more photos for you guys so you can try and decide whether it's for you or not. The black plastic matches exactly to the OEM black plastic. I'll also ride it for the important aspect of it and report back. So far I've tried a lot of shields. All of them, including the Aeroflow tall recommended by my friend Indy that it works for, throwing nasty air at my XD. The stock shield being the only one that puts clean air there, but at high speed I get the brunt of the wind. We'll see if this can in fact do double duty.
Hey DP, Just ship me the tall Aeroflow and I will gladly use it as a spare. I run a Shoei Hornet for more off road rides and a Shoei RF1000 for touring rides. The Hornet is not as good RF1000 for 70 mph road riding but it works fine if you don't lift your visor up and catch the flow. I will send you $300. money order for your troubles when it gets here. The Tourtech Desierto looks cool and should be adjustable to let the air flow clean around the helmet. That may be the best option for the Dual sport helmets. I really love the bugs flying over my head then into my face shield with the Aeroflow. So having a spare for down the road as it ages and gets scratched and beat up will make it a necessary to replace anyway.
Yea, Dan, I was perplexed. I installed the AF L and took it out for a spin. Believe it or not, I was still getting a nasty knot of wind right at my XD. Very weird because you and I are about the same height. Maybe I'm getting soft as I get older
MORE PHOTOS UP AFT UP FORE DOWN AFT DOWN FORE DOWN UP And if you want stock shield height, you can go: In the flesh, I really like the look. Gives the bike a mean attitude for sure. Due to the holiday, I have yet to test it.
fan-freakin-tastic DP. Thanks for the photos. That's cool you can remove the tinted part and it still looks good. Waiting patiently for the ride report.
Troy, Well, there are quite a few spots a GPS bracket could grab onto the support bracket. Taking up a lot of room is the instrament cluster. But, like I said, to the sides and on top of it are exposed sections of the support where you could latch onto.
The bottom of the black fairing is a bit wider than the bikes side fairing, then going up where the shield meets the black fairing is 15 inches wide then at the tip of the shield is about 11.5 inches wide.
