I have seen quite a few cases of stock bikes with burned reflectors.

Getting the glass out undamaged will be impossible IMO, it's glued in there with a ton of adhesive, which won't get soft enough unless you heat it up to a level where the housing will melt as well.

    Hi there,

I was wondering... is it possible to have LED lights instead of halogen? If I have to buy another part, I would like to minimize the risk of having the same problem again...

Had the same problem, housing was replaced under warranty at 17k miles

Been through any stream crossings? Did you get water or excess moisture in the headlight?

I tried to find a solution with BMW Canada and my BMW dealer. Both declined, so I decided to sue them in small claims court. Now it's time for me to go see an expert at Transport Quebec to check the part...

    wish me luck...

    Same story.
The overheating is simply normal with such a power... with halogen lamp, because of bulb temperature.
If you put HID before an evident damage, the part is saved.
In case of even a small burnt, no way: the HID light is not reflected and goes straight to heat up the plastic body - despite to the lower bulb temperature.

    Anyway: good news.
Not necessary to buy BMW OEM part: the whole part is corresponding to CEV713-714 (CEV is the producer) code. Let's try to search by Google..

    yep!

Don't know about the shipping cost; anyway last year I bought mine for 180 € with a dream-discount to a local automotive parts store.

    Good deal.

Same problem here. High beam mirror burned by a regular 55W Philips bulb. The enclosure is too small in my opinion. I've maybe used the high beam for a total of 3 minutes in 45.000km.

All the chrome peeled off mine.

There was some H2O involved. A river crossing that went wrong.

Basically it went all U-boat on me. Completely submerged. I think the globe shattered on contact with the water, and it burned the reflector surface like a arc flash.

Not sure why. Or how, other than the water. But it completely ruined the light.

I cracked a sad when BMW said they wanted about $600. First I attempted to get the glass off, put a screw driver through my finger and dropped and smashed the thing. Then I got a car headlight replacement insert with housing in 7 inch. Works great. Heaps better than the standard light.

This bike is supposed to do off road stuff... water is one of them... It's just a bad joke to think that once the water is in, it's all off :(

Did a run over the mountains on dirt in rain the other night, temp just above freezing. Usually the worst sort of condition for lighting. Worked excellent. Cost about $100 all up, plus I have a complete spare (because it's from a car - they have 2).

I was planning on mounting 2 side by side, but they were too big.

I would be interested to see how it was been attached to the bike. Do you have closer pics? Or best, a step by step process of what you have done?
