anyone know how tight this nut is supposed to be? i read on thumper talk that the steering stem nut is supposed to be 105ft lbs. not sure if that is correct.
I just did the front fork swap. I have a few details I need to figure out still. I am running the yz wheel and caliper. So my abs does not work any more. Can I still get the rear abs to work? If not what all can I rip out having to do with the abs? How did you route your brake line. Can someone post some pics. I currently am still using the stock headlight and fairings.
ABS does a wheel speed comparison between front and rear wheel so running it on one wheel only would be interesting to say the least, sure would find any firmware bugs fast, can we be there to take pic's ? GSBS has confirmed the ABS removal process I put in the back of the notes I made as the thread progressed so look at that as a starting point http://www.f650gs.crossroadz.com.au/Modifications/Forks/ForkNotesYZ.pdf I would update the notes if anyone posted more info Re the nut referred to by swamp, it is the SHB tension adjustment nut, bit like the nut behind the wheel, would not react well to 100 odd foot pounds of force
i hand tightened the nut pictured above, then i torqued the top nut that is under the handle bars. does this sound ok sufficient ?
Normally needs a little more than hand tightening, that is why they provide a C spanner in some of the tool kits in the old days. Look for a YZ manual it will tell you about SHB tensioning
I would've thought you could've run ABS on a single wheel with some sw code at least. It just reads the holes in the ABS ring so would detect when wheel was locking up. Wouldn't work on ESD/ ASTC (Anti slide) systems though.
Yes tend to agree with you but some doc's I was reading stated otherwise so now it seems it is a little more complex on the inputs, I would be happy to be corrected on my outlook though. always room to learn
Hi there, anybody interested in HerrHelmet shorter dogbones. It will raise the rear of the bike an inch higher to match with the yz fork swap. He willing to make it if there an interest of 10 sets. Pls contact HerrHelmet for more details.
Tighten the nut, by hand or otherwise, to about 25 foot-pounds, while turning the triples back and forth. This seats the bearings properly. Then loosen the nut again, and tighten until you get _some_ resistance to turning the triples back and forth. You are now preloading the bearings. What you want is enough resistance that with the forks/bars/wheel installed, the bars do not fall to lock in either direction, but will turn smoothly to lock when you start the bars turning and let go.
Anyone interested in an Elka Shocks group buy? http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=776499
Has anyone here tried the Hyperpro rear shock? I just recently ordered my yz forks and im looking to get a new rear shock to match them. What are your experiences with ohlins, hyperpro, rebuilt stock shocks whatever you have done? I too am curious about getting rid of the ABS completely. What did you do with the rear and does the Computer have problems just ripping it out all together. I am getting dizzy reading through the hundreds of pages trying to pick and pull what I need to know haha. Thanks -Zach
I have a 2011 g650gs im about to do the yammy swap with. Did you have any clearance issues with forks and the newer body style? Also what are you doing about the ABS. I want to get rid of it since it has never done much other than piss me off and scare the shit out of me when braking hard. I would way rather slide and let off the brake myself than have my foot thrown from the peddle and the whole bike become awkward and lunge forward with no brakes while the ABS is "helping" me stop(or trying to kill me).
I have the older style bodywork, so can't comment on clearance. I have removed the ABS after a misadventure like yours - can be very dangerous. I have had a Hyperpro for a few years now. Works fine, took a while to "soften' up. The Hyperpro is unique in that it is one of the few suppliers that will custom build the shock to your specs.
I pulled that shit off my 03 Dakar last year and haven't regretted it for one second. Dropped a few pounds too!
