With the weather being fairly dry it was time to go check out the block at Reporoa on the bikes again. We made it out to the hut on Saturday night before any of the rain showers passed over. The next day, after a leisurely breakfast & a bit of housework around the hut we set off around the loop. There were quite a few trees down but nothing we couldn't shift, cut or ride over or around. It was a rather nice day for it. I tried to school Rosie in the art of the wheelie down in the old gravel pit. Turns out 'just gas it' doesn't work quite as well on the 250 as it does the 640 But after some practice & copious clutch abuse a few repectable monos were performed. Then it was back to the hut for lunch & a cold beer in the sun Cheers Clint
My motorbike had been asking to hoone through dirt for quite a while so when Rosie and Clint offered to show me around sand camp the DR said YES! We met up with Paul and the wee whipper snapper Dean for a 5 person ride in volcanic pumice on a cool Sunday afternoon. Just like in the Dakar rally there were river-like stretches of sand suck followed by holes which had to be tamed (Clint and his steed) Crumbling sand mounds (Paul shows the technique) and ruts to be overcome as well as rut gravity ... (Rosie riding the channel) (the gravity was strong in this rut) Now where is that whipper sapper Dean? ahead I think ... (Paul off to see if his son had also sucum to rut gravity) What else would one do on a Sunday ? Find some hot pools in the bush near by of course.
Jac! Welcome to ADV! You've definitely proved your supa powers by managing those ruts on your first off road ride I'll hassle Clint to post up his photos too
Welcome to ADV Jac! You were doing pretty well on the Gerbil. These pumicey tracks are quite fun for messing around in as the landings are usually pretty soft if you arse up. Funny place to park a Gerbil: Watching the sunset from the hot pools on the way home is a great way to finish off an afternooon ride Cheers Clint PS Thanks for the Tank Stout Jac, it's fantastic
