Sometime ago, there was a thread about bikes and what we name them. I can't remember now if it was even in GSpot or elsewhere. I find I'm back on the topic with a new to me bike. As I lurk around the site, I keep thinking of my ride as I read about your rides and I had an epiphany today: I don't know the name of my bike. It's been bothering me but I didn't realize it until now.

I bought it. Rode it only briefly and parked it due to work. So my association was not long enough to get to the intimate level of exchanging names.

    What's your name?

I really want to get to know you better....

I call one "the GS" and the other "the Slash 6." Sometimes, it's "the old bike" and "the new bike."

Everything I own is called Lizzy. We called my long lost comrade from Vietnam 'the Bo Weaver'. His Norton was Lizzy...

Only Mario Girotti -- aka Terrence Hill -- is truly Nobody.

However, if John Eales works hard and really applies himself, he just might be a Nobody himself some day. Let that inspire you, too, that every one of us has the potential to be a Nobody. :freaky

Well the introductions usually go " Hi my name is Daze, and this is my bike" So I guess "My Bike" is my bike's name.

What's the point of naming something that does not come to you when you call it?

Good point, sometimes I wonder why we named the cats ...

Bike, cars ... the bike = the bike, the cars are: the small one, the big one. No need for cutesy names. If they don't work, they're called "piece of shit" or something of that nature.

My first bike was a 1999 Honda Xr400. My 2nd and concurrent bike was a 1985 Honda vf700s.

So calling them "The old one", "The new one", "The honda" didn't work at all. Calling them "the XR" and "the VF" or "the sabre" didn't work for people who had no idea what these bikes were. Calling them "The dirt bike" or "the street bike", well, I blurred those lines quite often.

So I named them normal girl names that aren't as common in my generation. Now that you've read that, I'm not even going to list them.

My cats, however, are Pumpkin and Ignats. They do come when they're called. Also, pumpkin sings a sad meow when we're in the kitchen and I call her. They are crowding me as we speak.

I tend to call them "The Aprilia" and "The Suzuki" these days.

I named the Aprila Dorsoduro "Furio", but never call it that because nobody knows what the hell I'm talking about. My wife has not named the Suzuki yet, and since its her's that is her call.
