    Good news and bad news.

The Good: The first tanks were molded.

The Bad: I wasn't happy with 2 details.

There are several advantages to roto-molding products rather than injection molding such as even surface tension and a seamless product BUT you have less control of wall thickness. The amount of material around the threads of the vent line fitting and filler neck concerned us and there would have been a very high number of rejected units so we had to do a redesign. The good thing is that the filler neck threads are now a bronze molded-in insert which will be very durable and long lasting. The brass insert for the vent line is far less bulky now.

We have to modify the mold (time consuming) and make a few test tanks to be sure there are no new issues caused by the changes.

What does this mean for time line? We are looking at the end of July for availability. It is disappointing but less disappointing than having a bike fire caused by a leaky gas cap.

I promise this won't turn into a 17 year project like Guns and Roses' album "Chinese Democracy"! :eek1

Yeah I know, less than ideal.

The first 100 tanks available are earmarked for ADVRider inmates and the 5 or 6 local riders who leant me their bikes for R&D. You guys will be getting your's before anyone else does. :deal

Get it right mate, get it how you want it and we'll all be happy too. The world needs more quality these days and less rushed-manufacture-for-profit. Having said that, i'll be excited to hear when they're ready :lol3

One man can't be everything but that's economics 101. You just know everyone at Timmies will be asking. (Loutre, that's a coffee shop ok, un café, eine Cafeteria)

Seriously though, I've met many GS riders not interested in ADV or the net so even a few busines cards would be great. Since I installed my Comfort seat I've banged off 15 hr days no prob. It wasn't about the availability of gas but the hassle. Canadian credit/debit cards don't always work in the US at the pumps. (what's my zip?) and it's mostly pre pay so off the bike, remove helmet and ear plugs, talk to Apu, fill tank and go back for your change. The one guy made me move my bike to another pump cause he authorized the wrong # and he couldn't figure it out. A few less stops would have been so nice.

Take your time, do it right and word of mouth will sell them for you.

    And hurry up. :1drink

After getting a test drive on the new F800GSA this is a great option for the older versions for extra fuel. I am not fond of the GSA, it is fatter up front and rides just like a GS, the fuel cell is huge and sticks out as much as or more than the camel tank. This is a great option and I want one ASAP!!!!

Looks like the '14 F800 has a similar looking one piece tank now. 6.6 gallons I believe. Copy cats! :lol3
