Great weekend on the river... Launched at Bent Creek, spent the night at James River Park. Pulled out at James River Wildlife Area on Sunday.

Stopped by the Wingina Store for the heck of it, it's nothing but a post office now. Still worth sticking your head in there to take a look, it's pretty cool inside.

    You all should have came!

do we need to get a count of "boots" at the BWDR? Maybe someone else would like to see the beautiful Shenandoah River by boot. If people plan and had a boot available, it would be cool. I will be in the OldTown 138 and I have a spare OldTown 111 for someone else to use.

just a thought. ps: since I am taking the Tahoe and boots, I will bring the trailer with the XR650 and XR70. Watch me......:rofl

    Dismal Swamp night paddle
Saturday, January 19, 2013 push off around 5:00 PM ish
Route 17 & Ballahack Road, Chesapeake, VA

we will gather at the boat ramp on route 17 and load up the boats. once the sunsets we start our paddle in the dark with out the use of flashlights. bring a glow stick to tie to your boat front and rear so we can keep tabs on each other.

We'll paddle Dismal swamp canal, its perfect for this as it limits the direction of travel so no lost people and very little man made light so your eyes can adjust to see things in a new way. Each person is asked to bring AT LEAST 1 big dura flame log or a couple of stick of fire wood since no wood is usually found on the island we will be camping on. A pit toilet is on the island and no water is available. In morning after breakfast we can break out on explore Lake Drummond before packing up and heading back to the ramp.

I think it's about 4 miles each way...

lessons learned by some last year.... If you go to bed early dont put your tent near the fire pit :freaky

I've been up the feeder ditch a few times, it's really fun. Lake Drummon is the coolest thing with the biggest cypress trees I've ever seen.

Take a pole if you like catfish....

Some buddies used to do that trip in February and would camp at the screened in pavilion on Lake Drummond.
One guy took would take his mountain bike and explore the roads thru the swamp.
