so, admittedly not having combed through the 1million pages of watercooled talk, has anyone mentioned the possibility of retrofitting the new LED headlight to the previous gen GS? i'm no electrical engineer, but from the LOOKS part of it, it looks like it's roughly the same size. LED draws less current so that should be easy enough. basically it comes down to mounting points and wire connectors..... .. and cost, lol old new (borrowed image)
No idea if it will actually mount OK but the electrics are the problem. Unless you do something you will get LampF. I also don't know if the LED control electronics are in the headlamp itself or in the ECU. There probably isn't enough room for the heat sync either without doing some physical changes. Despite the front appearance the unit is likely to be quite big since it has fans and all sorts on it.
I believe out best chance is to wait for Touratech or Wunderlich (just to mention the big ones) to engineer a plug-and-play kit (if that is possible) and sell LED kits for oilheads. I doubt it is an easy DIY project
I just bought a new water boxer. Has everything I want minus the led light. I looked up the part numbers for fun and it looks like its about $1500 foe the unit and control module.
If they do come out with a bolt-on version of the same thing I'll be the frost one in line. I LOVE my '09 GS but that light on the waterboxer gets me all giddy.
How about using and HID for low? Does it affect CANBUS ? Currently I have an R1100 with HID on low. It is a Touratech Revamp convert.
Depends on what kit you get. Some HID kits will give you lampf either right away or eventually. If you get a CAN compatible kit it should be absolutely fine.
