If you still have the capability, could you provide the approximate dimensions of the Mikuni vacuum pump above? Thanks!
The pump is a Mikuni DF44-227 with the IMS adapter for the tank attached. I bought a spare pump with attachment in case I needed it in the future. When my first tank leaked I kept the plumbing and now have that pump as a spare. If anyone is interested in the new spare pump PM me.
You think that tank is expensive. Ask any KTM owner that has bought the 10gallon Safari tanks what they spent. That should make you feel better. Great looking bike and setup.. Hoping to be a KLR owner some day..
Winderosa makes this rebuild kit for the pump.I found this one at a local shop for $5.99. I installed it in my original pump and verified it works.
I guess it's safe to say if you only filled the IMS with 6 gallons of gas it would weight in at about 48lbs. About 11.5 lbs lighter then the stock tank with Happy trail bars.
400 to 500 miles a tank, depending on how you ride. The last time I checked a full tank I hit reserve at 420 miles. So I could have hit 500 on that tank. That was mixed road riding.
Me and my wife each got one for our klr hers had a leak on the lower RH mounting bolt IMS shipped us a brand new tank express and free of charge providing we drill holes in the tank to make it un usable Each bike takes frequent naps while out and about and been up to prudoe bay I would highly recommend the tank it helps to put some weight back on the front wheel with a full camping load and when your not camping there's no reason to fill it the full 10 gallons
If they went to the trouble of the fuel pump, they might as well have installed a gas gauge. Or a clear strip up the side (like on some oil bottles) to see the level on the black one. <<<<<<<<------ thats a damn good idea!
I know this is an old thread but I was wondering if the tank can be painted or stickered(body wrap decals) and if the tank has attachment points for the 'pointy' parts of the upper faring that overlap the tank? Thank you.
IMS owes you BIG TIME! This thread is the best info about this product anywhere on the web. I know that without your cutaway photos I would not be buying one. The IMS site sucks and were too many unknowns. THANK YOU!
Old thread, but seems like the place to put any info related to this tank. I just mounted one of these on my '07, it fits great and the pump works fine right out of the box. Playing around with it in the driveway, I had only put about a gallon of gas in it so I could look in through the filler and make sure the pump is working properly. No problems. However, I notice that with only that small amount of fuel in the tank, the pump will soon pull all of the gas out of the right side of the tank. The gas is being pumped into the petcock reservoir and then runs over the wall down to the bottom of the left side. After a few minutes, all of the fuel has been pumped into the left side of the tank and the pump draws air from the right side and stops working. Of course it works fine again as soon as it can draw fuel. This is only a problem when the tank is pretty low, but results in maybe a gallon or so of gas still remaining that can't effectively be pumped. You could tip the bike to the right and try to even things out, I suppose. I am thinking of putting a tee in the output hose of the pump. One side of the tee will spill into the petcock area as it already does. The other side will be routed over to the right side pickup area. My thought is that this will keep the fuel recirculating until it's pretty much all gone. Has anyone tried this? At part throttle, it appears that the pump has excess capacity for what the engine could possibly use.
