Does anybody know how to make it work? It'd be a terrific tool, but ... I have "list folders" and "lists" in "My Collection" in my desktop's BaseCamp. I'm signed into my Garmin account. Cloud storage is "enabled" and (they say), it syncs automatically. (I did a forced "Sync now" per the instructions.) But the stuff I can see in "My Collection" on my desktop isn't showing up in "My Collection" or anywhere else on my laptop. Isn't it supposed to? Garmin's instructions are worthless. I use Dropbox. I use Google Drive. I have Web albums. I get the cloud-storage thing. And I see great potential for BaseCamp's cloud-storage utility ... but something's not working for me. Can anyone assist?
Do you get a <username> cloud data selection under My Garmin Devices in the top left hand corner? (Mac version)
SW, thanks so much for responding. I should have stated that I'm on a PC. But no, I've nothing like what you've described. In the left-side window, I have ... Library Garmin Adventures Cloud storage Username I am determined to learn BaseCamp, 'cause I'm kinda liking some of its features ...
From Garmin: Every Garmin user will have 150MB of cloud storage to sync your data (waypoints, routes, tracks, etc.) between different computers. This should be fairly seemless (sic), just log in with your MyGarmin account, drag and drop data into your cloud storage device and it will be synced on the cloud so can access it if you run BaseCamp on a different machine. daryl
Take whatever list you what to backup on cloud storage, then drag and drop it into the cloud storage device in BC. As data is transferred, a green status bar will appear to show progress. daryl
Thank you, Daryl. Yes, that's what I've been doing. I guess I don't know what comes next ... Is there supposed to be a menu of cloud-storage contents? From what I can see and understand of it, there's nothing indicating what's being stored as opposed to what's on the hard drive. Are the contents of window on the left (list folders, lists, etc.) supposed to be the same on each device that has been synced? That's what occurs with other cloud-storage programs, so my mind is looking for that. Also, my search and reading of everything I can find in BaseCamp "Help," in the tutorial videos, and on Garmin's website turns up no instructions on how one would retrieve something stored in BaseCamp's cloud storage.
It's data only. None of the folder and list structure is saved, just waypoints, routes, tracks etc. Clicking on the username under "Cloud Storage' should show you whats been uploaded. In it's present state I don't find it very useful.
Well, perhaps it was included before it was ready. It will be useful when it is. For now, perhaps it's enough to just keep using Dropbox and Google Drive. They're free, and work well.
+1 Basecamp's 'Backup' & 'Restore' utility will save the list structure and data. But it doesn't write any changes you've made to a *.gpx file you imported into 'My Collections'. To save those changes to a file, you need to do an 'Export'. daryl
Thanks for that, Daryl. I've been working with the backup and restore tools ... easy and useful, for sure.
I'm currently working with the v4.2.0.2beta and I actually find the "cloud storage" feature redundant. I use Dropbox and iCloud on my systems and with the proposed, v4.2, Workspace Location option I can place my BaseCamp data where ever I want it - which, in my case is my Dropbox for now. Very easy to switch between various "My Collection" databases when I need to as well. When this feature is released, Backup/Restore can be used as just that and not a means to load different databases. CAVEAT: you may not want to use this feature now as the Developers have said that at v4.2 release there may be breakage with previously saved [Workspace] data. Cheers,
