Hi everyone I'm new to the page and planning a European Asian Trip for the next couple of years. Planning to start in UK buy a bike and would love to hear from other people who've travelled around Europe.
If you get a bike in the UK. And get insurance here. You will only be covered for EU country's. As you say you are interested in going to Asia. Can I guess that you could be thinking of riding back to Oz. Now once saying that, how long have you got. I see the word's a couple of year's. Is that how long you have, or when you hope to start? Europe is a big place. EU I should guess is a little bigger than Australia. The difference is there's not any great big empty space's in Europe. And there is a lot to see. More information will get you better response. John933
Check here http://www.donedeal.ie/ and with Wheatwhacker on this forum for some good info on bike purchase in Europe.
John, Australia is a lot bigger than Europe* but, as you say, there's an awful lot of emptiness in Oz. DILLIGAFFF, one bit of advice I give to everyone who travels Europe is to learn some of the languages of the places you are visiting. German, French, Spanish and Italian at the very least. I don't mean be fluent but know at least the basics. Numbers, directions, food and drink should be enough. Many Europeans speak English (especially in the cities) but prefer you to at least try and speak their language. Don't be an ignorant traveller *Here's a picture to prove it. http://sarahfrances1.wordpress.com/2011/07/21/australia-compared-to-europe/
I was thinking about that as well. If you have another look you will see that, that they have not put in Norway, Sweden or Finland. All big land mass country's. So I'll still stick to what I said before. John933 http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Which_continent_is_smaller_in_land_area_Europe_or_Australia
I did but I'm a Yorkshireman and we don't admit we're wrong. Remember the 2 rules. 1) A Yorkshireman is always correct. 2) If a Yorkshireman is wrong, rule 1 applies
My ex father in law was a Yorkshireman. Talking about back of the que when it came to putting hand in pocket. I swear he still had pound note's in his wallet with the King's head on them. John933
True, especially that the map posted earlier lacks also Ukrain, Belarus, Baltic countries, Finland and a quite a bit of Russia. DILLIGAFFF, at least give us direction in whitch you want to drive. Quite a few things to see around here.
Scandinavia is next year on my ride list: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland. July/August for best weather?
Yup. Just remember that in Norway in the mountains even in summer you can still encounter snow and temperatures of around 3C. So remember to take one or two sets of wool underwear.
In NW France, Villiers Brettoneaux alternative to Gallipoli as a pilgrimage to Aussies. South of Paris, castles in the Loire Valley. The Dordogne valley. Nimes, Arles and Avignon in Provence. If the weather is too cool, head to Spain, my choice is Sevilla. If not, Flick up the Napolean Way from Cannes to Grenoble take a gander at Grindlewald in Switzerland, get yourself to Fussen in Bavaria to see mad king Ludvig's fairytale castle. Munich for the beer. Through the alps into Italy, Tuscany, Rome, Pompeii, up to Venice, into Slovenia then down the Croatian coast to the peloponnese, Athens, ferry to Crete, Rhodes, Turkey...... Just some highlights which won't disappoint. If you had enough time and money and weather you could never stop.
Munich for the beer is totally wrong. Everybody know the best German beer is Kölsch, which is only brewed in Cologne. The only reason everyone is telling you to go to Munich is the big tourist trap called Oktoberfest. If you want to pay too much money for average beer go there If you want to ride some nice motorcycles roads in Germany come to the Eifel, an area near the border to Netherlands and Belgium. And shoot me a message should you come near Heimbach there
