I'm a day late but as of 8am yesterday (June 2) the Sandia RD went into stage 2 fire restrictions which prohibits motorized vehicles (motorcycles included) on trails. Roads are still fair game.

    Let's hope for rain!

That would be the group that scheduled their event in Silverton *after* RMAR had planned for that weekend, thus forcing COHVCO/RMAR to move their event to Meeker after dozens of inmates had made plans/reservations for Silverton. :bluduh

Not a whole lotta love for that particular jeep club around here :deal

I'm sure there are lots of nice folks in the club, but pushing RMAR out of Silverton that weekend was a pretty douche-tastic move on the part of the organizers.

Is it just me or does public land seem to be getting less public all the time?

We're weren't forced to make a move but thought it prudent to do so.

There were projected to be 500-600 jeeps in town and given the nature of the trails/roads out of Silverton and over the various passes we felt that it would cause trail conflict. Frankly if there were 5 motorcycles that came upon a line of 20 jeeps working their way through a section and couldn't (or in the rare case wouldn't be allowed to pass) frustrations would likely escalate. With the high number of jeeps we envisioned this scenario playing out many times throughout the weekend.

With the above in mind we felt it would be best to split the event so that we had smaller events the weekend prior in Silverton and the other weekend in Meeker. This also provided a means to sample two great riding areas and allow some wandering through Colorado in between to make a great week of riding.

We're hoping that next year we'll be able to get some additional visibility into other group schedules (jeep and moto) so that we don't have this type of overlap again and we can also attend other events we are interested in. Unfortunately with only a few "dry" months its sometimes hard to find the right time.

Regardless we hope you'll join us in Silverton, Meeker, or both. The events will be smaller this year and should provide a good deal of camaraderie.
