Looks like I'll be there Nov 18th and 19th for work, with my evenings open. Any decent places to eat? Anything not to miss?

Downtown or West Knox?

Dunno. We have a car, so I'm not against running hither and yon.

2 bike guys that like to eat, the other doesn't drink. No bikes. No gear.

Big Ed's Pizza, Oak Ridge. Probably about 20 minutes from Knoxville and it looks like a dive bar until you see all the kids running around. It's fantastic.

I like Puleo's for Shrimp and Grits, Italian, and southern classics.

Downtown:
Cheasapeakes - Seafood
Crown and Goose - food / patio / people peeping

West Knox:
Connors - Shrimp and grits are slap yo momma.
Smokey Mountain Brewery - pub food and a micro brew.


Pizza:
Hard Knox - Mmmmmm
Central Flats and taps - across from the Time Warp Tea Room.

Hold on...... Tennessee seafood? isn't that kind of a paradox? That's kind of like looking for good seafood in WI

I get enough steak up here. I tend to eat local/regional when traveling. I don't recall ever having shrimp and grits.

BBQ:

Sweet Peas. It's a 20-30 minutes south of town, but worth the drive. Make sure to order the greens and things as a side.

Dead End on southerland ave. Neat building, it used to be a gas station.

Monday and Tuesday? Really?
IMHO the best steak is at The Peerless restaurant in west Knox, off Cedar Bluff Road, on North Peters Road (there's also a CycleGear close by if you need a motorcycle shop fix.)
Great, traditional Italian: Naples. In the "Bearden" district, on Kingston Pike. Follow this up with a visit to The Casual Pint off Northshore Drive (very near Naples)

Otherwise spend your time in/around downtown. Market Square and Gay Street are it. Preservation Pub. Peter Kern Library (a terribly cool speakeasy in The Oliver Hotel), Downtown Grill & Brewery, if you're into opera The Barber of Seville is at The Bijou. Tomato Head Pizza... It's a great area. Enjoy!

+1 on Time Warp Tearoom. You won't be there long but it's worth visiting.
