I searched for several variations of "BMW Protector Jacket" with no solid hits. Has anyone used this? What feedback do you have? I specifically want to know if this jacket could replace the armor in a normal riders jacket... for instance, a Darien or Raylle Pro. From the description it says it is for enduro use, so... can it be used for street safely? I ask because I most of my gear fits snug in some places and lose in other making the armor vulnerable to rotation in a crash. Doesn't seem too difficult to throw on a protective jacket like this, take the armor out of your normal jacket and dawn it over this. Then again, this thing is really pricey.
I've got one, but I have not used it yet, as I prefer a regular roost protector and elbow pads. There is no reason you couldn't use it on-road, though. But before you plunk down the money for this one, do an online search. several companies (Six six one, thor, fox, Acerbis) make something similar. Look here to get an idea.
oh, it also helps to be skinny like the guy in the picture. A big fellow like me looks like an armor plated sausage in that thing.....
Decided to try the same on last years road trip. Wore my 661 pressure suit under a Rallye 2 jacket. I unzipped the mesh layer containing elbow, back and shoulder pads and took it out of the jacket. I missed the ability to zip the pants to jacket as the jackets rear zipper was on the mesh layer I had zipped out. Worked well enough , but I wouldn't do it again. It was also a little more time consuming having to put on and take off the 661 suit.
Is the 661 for off road use only... does it have armor that absorbs impacts like the CE armor in most road jackets?
On road and off, I wear the BMW protector jacket under another cordura jacket without the armor. I posted some info and pics on it some time ago. I like the idea of this under the shorter length Rallye Pro as opposed to the longer Darien which I also have. I also have worn this under just a jersey in the OHRV parks. I believe it gives better impact protection than just a roost protector. Better than 661 - maybe, probably (untested opinon-had 661 for awhile). Better than Dainese - close call. It is very comfortable however. In summary, this under an all-weather capable jacket such as the Rallye Pro is what I would wear all the time. Or the Rukka All Road if you like spending mega bucks.
I'm considering buying this BMW armor or maybe the Forcefield link If you have suggestions on which one is better please let me know
+1 on the Forcefield Pro shirt. We just got them in our store and I immediately purchased one. The armor is fantastic and it fit me really well. I am going to use it for street riding as well as snowboarding. At $300 it is priced pretty well for the quality of the piece. It can definitely be used in place of the jacket armor. It is a bit less expensive than the BMW protector jacket, but does everything, but the kidney protection. The pants and shorts are also really nice pieces as well. PM me with any other questions. Thanks
