Darn so much for my plan to cherry pick the big bike class with my new 1190R. Looks like some real competition is starting to form up.

Coming back after few years off. Looking foreword to seeing everyone again and roosting some sand.

Had a blast at the PB300 so I thought I'd look into this one. Evidently their "insurance" doesn't cover sidecar rig participants. Still looking for the next adventure.

Take a look at Rally Diabolico. The organizer Scott Whitney has a bad ass hack. He'd probably be into you racing his rally.

The only time the TW will be travelling faster than the competition is if I've misread the terrain rolled the throttle when sane folks are grabbing brake, but I'm trying to figure a competitive tire combo for the TW.

Looking at last years GRR Section 4, I see that it specifically calls for DOT tires for the tarmac event, but makes no mention of them on the sand events. I know that *wink wink* the tires must be DOT to be ridden on the street, but is that checked in tech?

I don't remember if my tires were checked for DOT approval. But they did check my helmet for a DOT sticker.

Same experience here. Tires never get a look but safety equipment, headlight, turn signals, horn, riding gear are all looked at closely.

Slap a Maxxis Bighorn on it and don't look back.

What's the estimated range of a T Dub when ridden hard in sand?

Don't worry about tires from a DOT angle...it wont be an issue. you might be surprised...a TW ridden to its fullest will likely not come in last.

Are the turn signals and horn still required for this race?

I really want to do this rally, it would be my first event of this type. It looks like a lot of fun. :clap I still need to get my bike sorted a little better before I actually register.

Can anyone recommend a good tire combo for a 400 thumper? I was thinking Pirelli XCMS up front and maybe a Southwick 2 rear. Can you get buy with a good soft terrain tire like a S12xc or Southwick or do you really need a pure sand tire on the rear like a pirelli MXS or a Kenda Sand Mad?

    Thanks for any info.

Its shallow to deep rutted sand. The S12 on the rear works great...s12 on the front works well too.

I got a lights and sirens ride to the Hospital last year. I wouldn't hesitate if my bike wasn't an unruly 460# dirt bike in the sand.:1drink
