I know this has went around a dozen times before, but I'm looking for a new seat for my 08 GSA. The stock one hurts my but I'm ready for a new one. Don't want to break the bank, but what is new and or good out there.

Just finished an 800+ mi ride with a new "seat Concepts" refoam kit and cover.... Its worlds better then the sergent that I had... and compared to the stock " seat of death",overwhelmingly better.

I don't have a GS, but I recently got a Russel sport seat on my fz6. It does not
have the full suspension inside so it is less bulky than the big cruiser seats that they make.

I have not ridden it much yet but so far it is great, and the build quality is fantastic.

    Highly recommended.

Note.... That is not oil under my bike, it is just dirty water.

I have put probably 40k miles on a GSA with a Sargent Low seat. Very comfortable. I had a Sargent regular height briefly and it was too tall. For me, the low version was more comfortable than the regular.

Stock was OK but not an all day saddle. Got a Sargeant, a bit better. Took the stock saddle to Mean City Cycles. The put new foam in and shaped it better. Looks almost stock, now I ride all day without problems. Oh yeah, $150.

Hey Fishwiz, didn't know there was a fellow FZ-6 owner on this forum! I have an '07 (in "faster blue" too), thinking I'll still be keeping it after buying my '09 R1200 GS (they're two totally different rides).
Where in NoDak do you live? My last active duty assignment was in Grand Forks, 1992-1995. I don't miss the mosquitoes! :trp

I bought a used Russell on flea market. First ride no butt pain more energy to focus on enjoying the ride.

Sheep skin may help if you want to go inexpensive.

The Cee Baileys story sounds good but I haven't heard of anyone trying one. They say they made seats for police motorcycles and word spread about how good they were.

So if you know it's been asked a dozen times, why not search the website for all the threads?

    97. I'D PREFER A DIFFERENT SEAT THAN THE OEM (READ AS...."I HATE MY SEAT!") WHAT ARE SOME OTHER CHOICES? (The #1 complaint)

BTW...changed my stock GS seat for a stock GSA seat (1" higher and additional gel foam?) and it's like night and day.
Sorry you don't like the GSA seat.

Before making the switch to the GSA seat...I purchased a THICK Alaska Butt pad from Alaska Leather.
GS seat was a lot more comfortable. Didn't even think about stopping.

    With all things 'bike'...YMMV.

You have looked at a GS haven't you? I love mine, but the pig is purely function over form.

Now, putting a RDL on a MV Agusta...

Ah, crap, I went up to Lake Shasta in November and got a RDL. Worst thing I ever sat on.
It was impossible for me to put my feet down, and I couldn't move on the bike. I was sitting in a large, deep hole.
It had high wings on the side that were terrible.
And they had no other form for it.
I sold it the minute I got back to town.
I need to find one very like the original (2008 R1200RT) only just a little wider in the tail area, but with the same type of turndown at the edges, so I can shift sides, and put my feet down.
I'm 6'2" so it was not that I'm too short. It's just a certain type of seat for someone that wants that type.

I was lucky enough that my bike came with a Bill Mayer Saddle, I just had to go to their shop up in Ojai to get it shaped to my specs and I am loving it, well worth it ! ! Much nicer than the stock seat ...

Got gel, got heat if you want it. Wide range of leather and fabrics... not one style fits all. Custom-built to your butt. He works with you until you're smiling. Great guy. Summer picnics and camping...ride in!!
