I must admit it's the first time I've heard of a float bowl dropping off...:huh Why not just make a loop and take it around the rubber inlet hose between the clamps?
Oh, you guys are poking fun at my misfortune and it took me this long to find it. BTW- it wasn't my foot that knocked the bowl off but a large branch got kicked back. I felt it hit my foot rather hard and it must have dislodged the spring clip. Can't express what goes through ones mind when this happens on the TAT and the nearest town is 20 miles or more away, plus the grey clouds were coming in and it was beginning to sprinkle. Funny thing is when I found the bowl it quit sprinkling. See the float bowl wired up for fine one cylinder operation... one happy face.. bet I get leashes on before Datchew does......
Fixed today, instead of crimping the ends, they were soldiered. also cut the cables down to about 4 inches.
Ok so I found this thread yesterday, found some 60 lb plastic coated SS leader material and sleaves. SWEET! I promptly stole the Idea. The AK Airheads WILL Apreciate it. You will get the credit during show and tell, at the next Barley Therapy. The 30' of material will make Lots of them. Thank You
And I've lost a bowl on my /r, boot knocked it off following car flattened it. Why not just but a cable loop around the bail , pull cable firm and put it under one of the clamps on the cylinder to carb rubber? maybe even add a clamp all it's own (there's room) Then the bail can't move back to release the bowl. How often do you pull a bowl and what difference needing to loosen the clamp and cable? No drilling the bowl, in fact no modification of any kind. No cable loop in the breeze either. Do it carefully and the the cable loop can be moved around the side of the bail to the pivot point to release the bowl. Or for that matter go to the vacuum port location but firmly and tap for a button head cap screw if there isn't a tapped port already. or do a loop around the carb body in front of the cap and hook to the bail with a small S hook. The bail can still move, but not a lot. Overall I think it better to prevent the bowl from falling off at all rather than falling off and catching it.

Bringing a thread back from the dead. I dropped a float bowl off my sidecar a few weeks ago, in the middle of nowhere (dirt road riding thru a Wairarapa station). I think the spring bale caught on the bottom clip of my boots. I only travelled another km before I thought to look to see why the bike wasn't running well. Fortunately the bowl was sitting nicely on the road, right about where it started too run rough. And the gasket was just hanging off the bale. I have just made up some leashes to stop that reoccurring. Only the 2nd time in 26 yrs of riding airheads that this has happened to me. The other time was on a racetrack.
Zombie thread! Although I did follow someone else's tip to buy some threaded SS key chain things to use as the leases so I can separate the bowls from the bike as necessary. Haven't installed them yet.
