??? A cafe racer[1] (/ˈkæff reɪsər/kaff racer)[2][3][4] or (Ca-phay racer),[5] is a term used for a type of motorcycle, as well as the motorcyclists who ride them. Both meanings have their roots in the 1960s British rocker or ton-up boy subculture, although the type of motorcycles were also common in Italy, France[6] and other European countries. The term, which originally arose as an insult from motorcycle enthusiasts towards riders who they thought were playing at being a road racer but merely parked outside cafes,[7] refers to a style of motorcycles that were and are used for fast rides from one transport cafe[8][9] or coffee bar to another.[10] That may be more Ducati than most ....
/opinion on/ Cafe Racers are modified bikes... not something you buy at the store. /opinion off/ That said, the "new" Ducati is a nice lookin bike, but... it's new. Course, I know nothing about Ducati's, so take that for what its worth.
Boss Hogs are for people smart enough to know that if you are going to get stupid do it right. IMO, a VW engine in a /2 is only half way there!
Back to the original post, and not wanting to get toooo serious. Surely the point of the VW engine in a BMW (and latterly a soviet) frame was that when it was first done (certainly here in the UK) there were no large, i.e. 1 litre+, alternatives that provided reasonable performance and was cheap and easy to repair and maintain, and, as has been previously quoted, the potential for tuning was far out (twin downdraught, twin-choke webers!) remember until the GoldWing was announced there wasn't a suitable air cooled option. I am sure that there are more informed minds than mine that can clarify further.
I"ll join the race; I picked up this '74 750 GT (along with the '74 Norton)recently from a friend; And this is my ST2 currently; Adding a Ducati Designs headlight and a few other mods, hopefully back togeather by the end of Febuary
I just picked up some gaskets from Ozzies BMW and am making slow progress on the Beemer. I have been avoiding the ST2 lately so as to spare myself the angry looks it gives me. If you will finish yours by the end of Feb. I might as well concede the victory to you JB
That's my bike! I reposted on Craig's as I have my eye on a guzzi that I want to build. http://cleveland.craigslist.org/mcy/3572924871.html
^^^ Very nice . I have copied your text so that I can edit and post future listings .. I love this part : "Will not consider anything without a title. If you think it is so easy to get a title, then get one before you contact me."
Gorgeous... The very top of the list of motorcycles that should have never left my possession is the T160. One day...
