Hello boys, I hope someone can assist. My HP is quite thirsty on fuel. My normal GS1200 average around 19km/Liter or 44miles/Gallon. That is not hammering the bike, that is at around 140km/h. The HP never does the same at the same speed travelling with the 1200GS. The average is around 17km/L or 29miles/gallon. While back i was travelling behind Metaljockey on his 640KTM at a steady 120km/h(65mph) and the bike only averaged 37mpg or 16km/L. I have a foam pre filter that I just cleaned and it was quite dirty, could that possibly be part why the bike is so heavy on fuel?
How are you measuring the distance travelled? If you're relying on the bike odometer, that might be the problem there. You might want to check to see how precise the odometers on both your bikes are. Depending on how I treat the HP2 I sometimes get over 20km/L, sometimes closer to 13km/L.
Never got more than 17km/l on the HP. On the HP it is easy to check fuel usage, just ride it till empty and check milage. My 1200gs I had since new and know the milage vs fuel use is very accurate. Even the KTM we have checked in the past. The thing is 16km/L on the 1200 or for that matter the HP, is only happening when riding hard or heavy laden and riding fast.
i get around 350k from a 23 litre tank however i will say i have ridden conservatively and got to 350 k and went to fill up at the servo and found i still had several litres left in the tank. i think my hp2 is very good on fuel economy.
Checked my rear over the weekend - to discover uneven disc and pad wear... Yup, another FD is toast on my HP. That's my 3rd in 40k miles... I have a spare so if I can get it rebuilt for £300 or so... I guess that's okay. Just seems amazing I can break them that fast, even with the abuse I give it!
What does "check milage" mean -- using the on-bike odometer, or using a GPS or using an independently-measured distance marked on the road? That's what I was getting at.
well I have used both the same time while riding and the odo is within 2% of GPS actual distance. So no effect there.
Do you oil the pre-filter as well? And, have you tried it without the pre-filter? I've only put 4 tankfuls thru my HP2 to date... so far, I'm getting an average 5.5l/hk or 18.2km/l or 51.4 imperial mpg. Approx 2/3 of the kms have been with a full load onboard with a mix of off-road and 120kph highway.
