Have any of y'all had any dealings with Old Fort Harley Davidson in Ft. Smith? I'm eye-balling an XR1200X and thinking about going up, to take a test ride.

    Thx...nlp

The parts department can be a little clueless and just like all H-D dealers everything is geared to get you to purchase H-D branded chinese "accessories".

When I bought my StreetGlide in 08 I shopped there, Rogers and Joplin. Joplin was $1100 cheaper than Old Fort and $1550 less than Rogers. They also threw in some Harley cash to entice me to accessorize.

Old Forts owner and sales staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Did you look in their back warehouse? They've got a huge inventory for this market size.

LOL, yup called them asking about some valve shims a while back. It was an exercise in futility. The parts guy didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

Thanks. I've never been there and am only enticed by an XR1200X. My dealings for service, parts, etc... would likely be with Landers, here in Central AR. I may drive up Saturday and take a test ride.

Have heard in the past that Joplin and St. Joseph were the place to buy HD. Funny thing is best price at St. Joe was at a Jap bike dealer which im sure same guy owned both.

Arkwhizzy, either booger or rooster tail (black, gold blade).

Albie, waders won't help. You'll still look as clueless as I do on a dual sport. Yup, that bad.

Matt, in the oven at 4:22p at 325 degrees.

Out at 6:22. Needs a bit more.

you are already at fish camp?

I think the slicing before hand lets them cook faster maybe?
ive never tried unsliced, but following the original recipe ( more heat, longer cook times) they were dry to me.
Id rather err on the side of rare, that can be fixed with the oven.

what is your opinion of recipe/process?

    Nate:

We purchased our last HD from Old Fart... I mean Old Fort Harley. The owners are great folks. They were very helpful over the SEVERAL months (over a year or so, actually) that we kicked around the idea of purchasing an Ultra. They let us ride any/all the Ultra's they had on the used showroom floor whenever we stopped by and had the time. They've cheerfully answered all my "newbie" questions since I first stumbled in there back in November of '07, etc, etc.

I have no complaints with the service department. The Service Manager, "Mike", is very knowledgable and has been very helpful.

Overlook the anti-Harley bias here and go see for yourself... may, or may not, be the place or the bike for you.

    Best of luck!
