And a side note, if anyone is looking for business to invest it, here is some insight: 1) Kenda tires - I run Kenda Trackmaster K760's and will be buying at least 4 rears over the winter - should get me to August 2013 2) Belray - nothing but H1R in the tank and GearSaver 80W in the tranny - going through it like a politician spews promises 3) Chevron - nothing but 94 octane to mix with that H1R - every twist is like money in the bank for you
Bchunter, Have you ever tried Amsoil Dominator 2stroke oil ? I'v been using it for about five years,I'v had good luck with it. Powervalves clean, when rebuilding. The best thing I think is it comes in quart bottles and I mix it 16 oz to 6 gallons gas.So you get 12 gallonsgas to bottle and it costs about the same as the little bottles of other oils. This is my second 300 I'v rode it alot doing harescrambles and enduros,But I'm thinking more about just trail riding and since I have this bike already I'm gonna try it out as a dualsport. I have a extra set of wheels, so I can put some more street worthy tires on them.Maybe put a smaller sprocket on the street wheel.
No, I have not tried that one but have a buddy who used to run it when he had a 2T. I tried some Amsoil once, but it was because I ran out of Yamalube in my old TS. In that thing, I don't think it really mattered what I ran. Actually, in the old TS I was using Polaris sled oil since I had some kicking around. When I took the top end apart, it was very nicely oiled everywhere and in great shape. I have another friend with a KTM 300 (the one in the pic) and he just did the top end on that one. He is running H1R and it was very impressive the coating of oil everywhere. For sure ride it on the street. Of course there will be some quirks and quarks for vibes and such, but if you don't care, then just ride it and have fun. I keep the gearing the same on the back sprocket (41) and just switch out my front (13 and 14). But if you have spare rims, then for sure throw a small sprocket on the rear and go to town. I wish I had some extra rims for my bike, I would keep some supermoto's and another set for my ice tires. Just makes swaps that much easier. For me, swapping the front sprocket is easy peasy and I can gear it the way I like. From what my buddy says about his 300, the only real "issue" is the front wheel vibes with the rim lock. Mine does not have one and is silky smooth, but he has taken his 300 on 700 km dualsport trips before with no issues, and that is even with 14/52 gearing. He could still have no problems keeping up with the 650's and 950's. With my 14/41 gearing I can outpull and pull away from a KLR 650 that has the 685 kit in it and cammed to heck. Dualsport it and have fun!!!
Put some pictures up once you get your ktm on the street, 2 strokes are the Most smiles per mile!!! I have a ktm 250 xc/w with a street tag. I mostly ride hare scrambles and enduros and haven't put the tag on yet. I have everything to do it , but love my RZ350 on the street, 350cc 2T street bike. It turns me into an aggressive wheelie idiot.

Thank you for posting the thread. I looked at it and i dont think i have much of a shot here in SC, the guy i got it from didnt have the title for it so i am pretty dead in the water. I guess it will be used as my woods bike.
I owned this KTM 550 that I would have loved to dualsport if I could get a plate for it. It just would have needed lights and a larger tank. I'm sure it would have gotten me into a lot of trouble, it was just that kind of bike!
why yes actually it is, the Ktm seem to have everything on the wrong side. pipe, chain, carb, ect. I have some experience with a kx500 that i'd rather forget.
Yep, everything's backwards. Nothing like left-kicking a high compression 550cc 2 stroke! Once it was started, it was well worth it though. Mine was breathed on a bit by a talented engine builder and put out around 75 hp. The 550 engine was designed for sidecar racing in Europe and was a beast. Stock versus stock, it was quite a bit more powerful than both the KX and CR500's. A friend of mine built an incredible road race bike consisting of a built 550 engine in a Honda NSR250 frame. It was geared high and would top out between 140 and 145 mph on long straights. It was a blast to ride! Durable too - the thing lasted him seven race seasons without a top end job. Let me see if can dig up a few photos of that one.... Ah, here we go:
Assuming you meant one of the KTM 550's I posted: Mine, the dirt bike, was a 1994. I swapped out the front end for a Honda CRF Showa unit and grafted some 2008 plastics onto it. The road bike was a 1989 Honda NSR250 chassis with more modern bodywork from Tyga Performance.
It all depends on how much street you'll ride. The exc is a factory "dual sport" with a stator that'll power and light connections. I have my '08 300exc plated, in Costa Rica. I run 13/50 because I like dirt more than street, but it'll do 50-60
