Anyone have any experiance with these above 13000ft with a 250lb load (including rider) on jeep like trails?

anyone taken a serrow up pikes peak? did it make it?

I don't know. My legs took me up there two years ago on the marathon. They worked fine.

When it starts to sputter, put some beer in the snorkel to help it ignore the pain of the high altitude.

Anyone know if there is a cheap aftermarket seat cover available. The stock one is about $65.

I haven't ridden a Serrow up the Peak but I've ridden other bikes up there and had no problem. Easy ride for that bike.

My wife went up on her KLR250. From 12,000' on up she was maxed out at 12mph. Barely made it, but that was before we had it jetted for altitude. I'd imagine it'd do much better now. Keep in mind, they say that carburated bikes lose 3% bhp per 1,000 gain in elevation. Pikes Peak is 14,110. That 225cc just became a 125cc with an adult on it at that altitude. Get it jetted for elevation, make sure the air filter is clean clean clean and don't expect to be doing wheelies above 12,000' and it should be fine.

I'm not sure if there is a specific aftermarket seat cover available, but you should be able to recover your own fairly easily.

She loves the 'lil XT225 (good thing, since I'm the one who 'pushed' it on her! ), and I'm pretty impressed by it also. We're already planning various modifications/improvements - many gleaned from this thread.

I've got one and they work great.

my friend is going to pick up her xt in a couple weeks. she's interested in putting a larger fuel tank on it... anybody know what might fit?

I live next to a pretty decent ORV park (Windrock/Coal Creek) and one of our riding buddies picked up one of those. It lasted about an hour and a half. Probably lasted that long because 15minutes into the ride we had to stop, dig around for tools, and put the shifter back together. By the end of the ride (which was mostly mild to medium trails, no real jumps but a lot of little rocks to hop around on) the rear fender had cracked, tailight fell off, the front fender was loose, the subframe had a crack in it, the headlight stopped working about 8 minutes into the ride, etc. You get what you pay for. I found a pristine '01 XT-225 for $1,700 that needs a new set of tires on it and could probably use a battery. It had 3,600 miles on it. I expect it to last a long time to come...

Not a slam on the bike you chose, but from my experiance the sum of the parts weren't worth the whole...

There has been talk about clarke stepping up to the plate. I think there's a thread on it at xt225.com

Clarke keeps saying it's "in development". No word on a release date yet.

I took Thumper ( 05 XT) out about 1130 am
from Broomfield and did the following 125 mile ride
Arvada via the Foothills parkway: too many cars and windy. The XT needs 100 more cc w/ my big ass!

The FANTASTIC Golden Gate Canyon in Golden, CO ( up to 9500 feet). What a wonderful bunch of twisties. I followed a Yamaha Venture Land Yatch. This guys idea of a perfect line was all over the road. I was hitting every apex, although most were filled with tons of post snow gravel and laughing at this guy and his buddy on a Sportster. No ATGATT, but I quit laughing when I realized the Venture had a trailer hitch. Guess we were just from different planets.

Turned on 119 to see the Casinos in Blackhawk and Central City ( tough place after dark I bet)
and back the same way.
The lakes are still frozen up high. I saw lots of deer in Golden Gate Park.
What a day to live in Colorado! I'll do the entire Peak to Peak next weekend.
Tomorrow I am open for suggestions.

My gosh, it's beautiful there. 125 miles on an XT, wow, that's amazing. I am thinking of a small dual sport bike myself. Believe it or not, I am getting tired of riding my ZRX1200. Everytime I ride it, I break the speed limit. It's hard to be disiplined when you have that HP on tap. A smaller bike will slow me down.

The smaller bikes are more fun in many ways, more carefree pure fun, and kind of keep you out of trouble, too.

Here are a few pictures of my bike reposted from xt225.com. The only disappointment on this bike is the rear wheel/ brake assembly. Mods are : TTR225 rear fender with a WR taillight assembly; Promoto rack; FMF slip on; Renthal YZ bend bars; Cycra probends with triple tree mounts; rejetted with a 130 main and 42.5 pilot with 2.5 turns on the screw... It runs like a champ for its size.

If only yamaha would take a look around and realize the jdm/euro xt250 or a street legal usdm ttr250 (now discontinued :huh ) would be the ticket, and at a very similar price point (hell, the rear disc on the special edition Japanese xt225s would be tits) ...
