Don't believe a word Ben says, the biggest adventure that bike has seen is riding over the curb at the local Starbucks parking lot!
Ok so with all the parts in I set off to work! headed off to work to clean these up a bit pistons cleaned up nicely and piston to cylinder wall clearance was PERFECT!! almost zero wear enlisted the help of a friend long story short here but the connecting rod bolts are all non reusable.... so a week or so went by with no update due to my busy school schedule, waiting on parts and with work.... in the meantime I decided to replace my R/R with a compufire snip snip bolts finally arrived and the motor went back together.... well.... almost... a good eye will notice that I managed to reassembly the motor without the idler gear or starter gear.... no problem right? just slid the shaft out.... uh... nope... shaft is hammered into the block.... MOTHER F***ER!!!! so the decision was made to install the engine and bring the bike to work in the morning where we would pull the flywheel to install the gears... so the motor was in and bike was headed to work in the morning... so at work the 14mm flywheel bolt came off with no problem... no heat needed... the flywheel however... with a 1/2 inch impact running full max and the heat gun heating away the flywheel wouldnt budge! repeated attempts left us with a dilema.... what to do next? after some careful thought we heated the pin for MAYBE 30 seconds.... and the pin slid right out like a hot knife through butter! that evening which would be last night I had class but raced home straight afterwards went to work! no assembly pictures... sorry folks! but I was hyped up and was on a roll! basically from having just an engine in the frame I managed to completely assemble my bike from approx 7 pm all the way through to 2 am this morning.... long night! here are just some pictures of the process final picture...
Awesome bike mate! What's that crazy windscreen you have? And what are those supports in the back of the screen? I've seen a couple pictures of them but can't seem to see where you talk about it. I've tried looking through most of your posts to no avail. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20216753&postcount=6234 http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20184285&postcount=6226
Love the bike Ben! What is that awesome windscreen you use for commuting? I've seen it in a couple of your pictures but couldn't find in your threads where you mentioned it. Are those braces something that came with the screen? Where do they attach?
Thanks! How are the clip type masterlinks working out for you? I saw on one of your pics you had two clip type master links two links aways from each other.
anyone care to give me an idea how much my bike is worth? I am thinking about selling it but just don't know what the damn thing would sell for?
Id take all the really fancy stuff off and sell it separately. Sell the bike for 15k. Maybe alittle more. I think you would be hard pressed to sell it for 20k (what is it probably worth as it stands now).
50 cents per domestic miles, and $1.50 per international miles. Or a penny per civil miles, and $5.00 per hardcore miles. I figure this calculation would put some good worth to your bike.
My guess, $9000. Check Kelly Blue Book for a high milage, less than perfect condition bike, then take the sum of all your extra awesome parts and divide that by .25 That's what it's worth on paper IMO, not saying that's what someone will pay for it. That is unless you find a buyer that wants YOUR awesome bike and is willing to pay whatever it is you think it's worth. I recently saw a 2 year old 8GS with 6000 miles, still in warranty, some extras, that looked like it never saw even a gravel road for $10,000 You want to come do that thing we were talking about, you'll be glad you're not on that bike even with your skills.... trust me. Looking forward to what you have in mind next Ben.
