Sounds like you're gonna be a flying ball of bailing (or barbed?) wire before this things over and done with. Way to make on-the-spot hillbilly fixes. Extra points awarded. :freaky

Hardheads Mk8 'Jason edition' will include protection for the top spark plug also? Or did you somehow stab the lower plug?

Doing well extremely well though mate. Keep Paul busy with repairs as I know he loves it :)

Clarissa and I always check the relevant safari pages as soon as we get some internets here in nowhere town in Cambodia.

Its like some crazy WW2 conspiracy, Aussie built German bike with an American rider!!!

    Dominate!

So, I'm gonna guess heat sink go bye-bye??? box blew up?? Anyway, are you running new mousses? Assuming you are, what kind of life are you getting out of them? Just hoping no failures as Manuel is having...:cry I'm assuming he's out.

Just so you guys know, there is a Dakar class and the fastest rider will get to race Dakar2013 for free which is insane!!! Full factory support!!!! Most guys would cut off a limb for that chance, a bummer that Manuel is probably out due to lack of funds.....shame.

Fly the flag high, Jason and be careful.

I'm guessing a burned out coil from tearing out a plug wire on road debris. Maybe the coils are connected in series and when one burned out it cut power to the other. Big time speculation. Gitter runnin and GOOOOOOO!!! Good luck taming those 'dragons.'

I've been reading all the threads and following closely- Great stuff Jason. You're doing all us airheads proud.
2.5Km push at the end of the stage :eek1 :bow:bow:bow:gdog

Black box failure- this bike has the powerdynamo set-up doesn't it? I'll be interested in the post-mortem on that subject as I am heading towards buying that set-up.

    As always,
have a great time, stay safe and good luck tomorrow.

    You guys are good!

Yes the speculation is that possibly tearing out a wire may have damaged the brain. It didnt spend any time running with the one wire out, but yanking ot while running may have hurt it. Who knows, maybe it was just its time to go.

We replaced the powerdynamo icu and the bike ran again, and we replaced one coil for good measure.

Cant afford to miss any more stages. Four more days to go.

:wave Ted! Thanks for the correction......if nothing else you get a spot on the start line which isn't easy!!!! Don't know why I thought you'd get a kind of "factory" support.

Way to go J-man. Looks like Rod Faggotter dropped to the back with a mechanical or something. Man, that must of been a bummer of a name to have in highschool. :D

Copied this from Jasons FB update via his Lady...

Rally Day 4: An improvement over days 1 - 3. No crashes, and no mechanical issues, so rode both stages (both of them in the 180 - 190k range) without incident. Paul Rooney has taken away Jason's toys (camera, phone, etc) so that he can concentrate on riding and navigating and remove other distractions, and it worked pretty well. As Jimmy Lewis said "slow is fast"(er). He even made up a few places, so is now not running last in the race. Rocky and challenging terrain today, and he's commented that everything in Australia seems to be trying to hurt him - rocks are knife-edged, tree branches are thorny and want to grab parts off the bike as you pass, even the soft sand isn't so soft. Tomorrow includes a 300k stage that he's thinking is going to feel VERY long and difficult. He's going to visit the medics and have them look at some blisters forming on his throttle hand (oh, is THAT what you call it?) and tape them so they don't get bad, but otherwise he's feeling good. Two more full days and then a 57k sprint to the finish.
