Mike have you rode this route? The route begins at a road fork along the Taseko River at N51.56260, W123.69785 and ends abruptly in a cirque south of Mt Mclure. The route also appears to originate from the GPS site " GPSies.com" - although I could not seem to locate it on that website? Maybe you could give us a description of what this track is about?
Yup ridden twice, last year and the year before. See. http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=922685&page=2
Thanks...........................great pics in the writeup! That give some great perspective to a line on the map:eek1 Cheers, J
I've always been curious of the Battlement ridge road and wondered about the mineral roads on yer trip. About 10 years ago we were dropped at Taseko, looks like yer camp site where the old cabin is, then cycled with all the gear up past the old camp, airstrip and on to Warner pass and beyond to Spruce, Tyax etc. I've known others to go over Battlement then Grant cr then over Big creek through Relay and others turning right and through Lorna pass, Deer pass and on to tyax, all Mtn bikes. I've daydreamed those road works you did turning right at the camp here in yer write up, love the photo's on Smugmug BTW, really helped me finger it out. I might have missed something too, did you make the ridge line over Taseko from the west side mining area in that bunch of pictures? I've wondered aloud about that stuff too. I see its minus 36 at Puntzi mountain this morning.... bring on the summer, damnit. Oh ya I'd also heard of a stinker of a river crossing somewhere between the Taseko northend on the road you did, is that what we see in yer vids? Great riding in that area, ya got me all wound up now...damnit.
Hey Randaroo. Linz and I originally headed up that way a few years ago to see if we could find a quick route from the south into Taseko and Chilco lakes area. We have not. We did however find some exceptional country to burn gas in. Had we stayed on the N.ish side of Taseko R. we might have blundered over the pass at the E. end of Battlement Ridge. There is a very old mine camp of this route that can be seen through Goo.Earth. Intel.seems to show this as a lot of work and not what we were looking for given our advanced ages and lac of stamina and a much coveted level of lazyness. This last trip was driven by our need to cross the Taseko R. at the W. end of the old air strip. Then to putt around the roads to the S. We are talking about doing again to check out the access to the Big Creek area maybe by going up Powell Ck. as a small track can be seen. There are a few creek crossings on our last try but while deepish none were too bad and could be managed by a ok rider with good luck. High water or a big rain will change things quickly. Your question regarding the ridge line on the W. side of taseko is unclear. We hiked a bit to see but could not find a clear route over to the S. On the west side trip we camped at Fishem lk. near another air strip close to the big green dozer. That was a beautiful place to camp. Not many fish though. The road in to there is getting rough and the last bridge should be looked at very carefully before driving a truck over. There is a route around it downstream a bit. Also there is a small slide that could go again near the end of the road. http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=922685&highlight=Taseko http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=828778&highlight=tesako Happy trials.
