The Lansing, IA bridge that runs over towards DeSoto WI was closed down yesterday. Important pieces were cracked apparently. No ETA on it opening again.

Sucks for those of us that want to recreate in the area. Really sucks big time for those who depend on it daily.

    Crossed that silly-looking thing just a couple of weeks ago . . . . . . . . I hope it gets fixed soon, it's the only one for quite a distance.

Well that kinda SUCKS!!! I was planning on crossing that bridge (Aug 25) on the re-route into Iowa off the TWAT to bypass all the newly paved roads east of Prarie Du Chien. How far north is the next bridge (any ferries in the area)?

Lacrosse would be the next point to cross to the North. I think it is about 35 miles up the river.

Well, you could run them across at the Cassville Ferry, and then back at PDC...

The car director/gate operator at the ferry is kinda worth the trip.. :lol3

And yeah, it's sucks about the bridge.. I cross there all the time when running SW Wisconsin roads on weekends.. The overlooks above Lansing are excellent..

I was planning on a ride over that bridge yesterday or today while I was at the MN MG rally. Glad I never made it that far South.

I rode across that bridge a day or two before it closed. I hadn't been across it in 20 years, and I thought it was cool that it hadn't been replaced with a generic concrete bridge yet. I hope they don't take this as the opportunity to replace it. It's really a cool old bridge.

That bridge was featured in David Lynch's "The Straight Story". Richard Farnsworth plays the guy who drives his lawn tractor across Iowa to visit his estranged brother in Wisconsin. In the movie, he crosses the bridge from West to East, I guess because the approach to Lansing is more picturesque than De Soto.

Sort of....but we know what you meant. The story involves the ride from Iowa towards Mt. Zion; the film actually shows a tractor ride from the east, into the abrupt end at Lansing. A fun, picturesque, summer breezy film.
