I'm just servicing the bike after our latest adventure and I've just checked to see how the air filter is as I have Pyndon's per-filter fitted. There's a fair bit of oil on the front intake. Should I be worried at all and any suggestions as to why it's done it?? A few pics below. Thanks
You could try this: Bypass the Crankcase Oll Breather Hose to AirBox with a Filter and Cap the AirBox Inlet. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5429623&postcount=6 <HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #575757; COLOR: #575757" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message --> Also, you may have a Bad Crankcase Seal: http://ktmtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=408017 Excess Blowby from crankcase breather, onto air filter In my case I fixed the excess oil blowby from the crankcase by replacing "shaft seal ring 12x20x5B " part # 0760122050 avilable from munns racing online it is located in the alternator cover and seals the Crankshaft Balancer . if you do it you may want to order a new alternator cover gasket also evidently the crankcase pressure is metered and vents through the crank balancer shaft . If the seal is shot it blows major oil for some reason mine was rock hard and shrunken . I've got a pre filter fitted and looking at the air filter it's done a crackin' job as it looks new apart from the oil trace. Can't log onto the link for some reason
My money is on prolonged high speed running - ie 200 miles @ 90mph? Clean it up & look again in a couple of weeks.
My 950 did the same. Found mine was due to a balancer shaft seal failure. The case breather port is right above this seal. Its very easy to check and replace. Just make sure you have a spare ignition cover gasket.
I just ordered the parts for my fix. I'll try and take some photos when I get in there. May install the K&N breather filter if I can get hold of one. There was an K&N part number floating around somewhere. . .
