I put a deposit on the last 07 640A at the dealership today. I've been reading the threads on the bike and it looks like suspension will be the first mod of the spring. I'd like to see how you guys have mounted GPS's/roadbooks and the rest. That space above the cluster looks perfect for my Garmin Quest but how do you mount it there? Pics would be great so I can decide how to proceed. Heres a shot of my new toy. Don't worry it'll never be that clean again.
KTM roadbook carrier with some rubber hose and o-ring for gps. Simple and very cost effective ;-) Large image
Thanks Seikkailu_R thats exactly the type of set up I was looking for. The TT piece was waaaaay to much for my tastes. Thanks for the compliments on the new toy. I can't wait for spring now. Good thing they are holding it at the dealer till then or I'd be sleeping in the garage.
Whats up with the wire/hose coming right accross the speedo and tach? I looked at a few of the other pictures on this thread and they have them too. WTF KTM? Cant they find a better way to route those. But I guess you would get used to them quick enough, after all its a 640A!!
Front brake hydraulic line and throttle cable. Not sure where else you would route them and keep them free and unbound, particularly the hydraulic line that is pretty stiff and needs to move with the front suspension stroke.
Here's mine and when riding I can see both clocks perfectly The hose coming across the top is the second brake hose to the front wheel from when I added the high fender. This hose was completed in the KTM kit.
Hi Flueger, what diameter tubing did you use for your gps holder? Is it stainless? I need to make something up for mine to get rid of the interference between the handguards (same as yours) and the stock roadbook holder. Thanks, Nick
View attachment 147097 Here's my dash, used a road book holder as a template and then made one out of stainless. Bars do not touch this one and it get's the GPS up in my field of vision. Ed...
You've obviously never seen a pic of the dash on a 950 I guess it's effectively the same as the 640A got the 950 front end in 2005. I've never quite figured out why they didn't run the brake line down the right side and then split it over to the left rather than the other way round which leads to the long loop of hydraulic line from the right side m/c across in front of the speedo. It's way better on the 990. Seems like 1/2 the number of lines and not blocking the speedo either. Hopefully they'll carry this forward to the 690 (though the ABS played a part in the new 990 brake hose routing so maybe not ;-)
Wow, I didn't expect so many replies. Great ideas, now I need to get my parts order in so that I can get started. Thanks, Rob
This rocks - I just got the same carrier for a roadbook and quest GPS.. Never thought of using the extra space to carry a pouch like that - it would be real easy to fold up some tubes/patches and the like - just in case... Thanks
Sorry, I asked the wrong question(I'm under the influence of small children) What I meant to ask was, what wall thickness is the tubing? Thanks again, Nick
