And the best part is .............now I know it can be done myself and that I can lift my own bike up. I had never done that before

Since it was Christmas Eve, I bought myself a little present

This beach was deserted for miles. I went in for a little dip here to cool off

The sand on the beach is like powder.
Punta Allen is a nice get away from the crowds to the north.
Just follow the Tulum road in. It turns to dirt and is a very nice GS raod

I have read your RR in two sessions. Now I am really pissed off at myself. I should have read in smaller bites and that way stretched the enjoyment for longer. I too like to be off the beaten track but as I am the wrong side of 60 am terrified I will get stuck. But I guess that is a mindset. Glad that you are not rushing the trip, but making the most of every opportunity. I have a KLR650 as being mechanically handicapped this bike has no funnies and easier to understand, with, I think, the advantage of even a mechanic with a very basic knowledge can get you going to a larger repair centre. My ideal bike is the BMW 800. Not to heavy, lots of grunt and can run all day at 120kph. I prefer soft panniers to hard ones. Seen a few feet and ankles been hurt when a tumble is taken ........ But soft panniers are not as theft proof as hard ones.

Do you buy your food on a as and when required basis? Do you carry an emergency supply?

Yes, the KLR is nice bike. It will do everything. I got the GS1200 because I wanted a bike with some balls.
It is nice to have the extra power for passing.

I used to have soft bags but once I went to hard cases, I would never go back. They hold their shape and they lock to keep unwanted people out.. It just gives my piece of mind when my eyes are not on my bike

I always carry some food with me. You never know when you are going to need it.
Some times you can't find a restaurant or maybe I will see a nice beach along the way and decide to camp there unexpectedly. I have some dehydrated food with me. All I need to do is heat up some water and I have a nice meal. I also carry power bars and trail mix.
But I only use that food if I need to. Otherwise.......bring on the tacos!!!!

Actually, I had some tequila before I dug my bike out
After all, I was living in Mexico for a good month.
My priorities have changed
And if I didn't get my bike out, it was a nice place to stay for a while
LOL

There is this lake about 2 hours south of Playa del carmen that is amazing.
They call it the lake of 7 colors because it has every shade of blue-green.
I stayed at a place called Eco-toucan
It costs cost 50 peso to camp there.
It has a restaurant and bathrooms.
But the lake was amazing
And the weather was perfect
You can kayak around the lake
Or just swim in its beautiful water

I mean, I hold your RR right up there with the likes of RTWDoug, tsiklonaut, Radioman, Colebatch and the likes.

All RR are good because each is it's own story told by the person who wrote it and some RR are great and then there are the EPIC ones. Yours my friend is in the EPIC catagory. Thank you so much for sharing it.
