Thinking about heading up to Watkins Glen for the US Vintage Grand Prix, Sep 6-9. Has anyone 1) been to this event 2) know if it is Moto-primitive camping friendly?

    Thank you.

Wowsers, what a day. First while we were greeted by smiley, happy faces (J4S and J4Sjr) it appears the truck stop at the RT301 bridge has been sold? Lets' just say the new folks running the food aren't making tasty stuff.

Then, we arrived at Eagle Bay. The place was PACKED for the mud run.

They even hired a water truck

Then they graded/hogged out the short loop to flood it.

Kinda ruined the training ground for J4Sjr. Anyhow, Blaster and I took off on the long trail. I don't think I have done the long loop in the reversed direction. And while the little bike has been treating me pretty gosh darn well recently, I don't think I've ever taken her out on the big loop. We thought that it might be good to get J4Sjr down to the fire road and just let him ride it back and forth. But as soon as Blaster and I get there, we realized the slick 0.7mile down to the track would probably be too much for his first time out.

So, not to go backwards on the direction of travel, we get this "great" idea. We'll cut out some of the early spurs off the fire road and get back to tell J4S. Except it doesn't quite work out that smoothly. First, I don't really have good bearing on the track in the old direction. Add a spice of the new direction, and I haven't the foggiest clue where the heck we are. To add further injury to insult, the end of the fire road, there has been quite a bit of re-routing around the downed trees.

No kidding, we rode the same.track. 4 (or was it 5?) times before getting off it. I couldn't even tell you the correct way to get off the Ferris wheel, as we finally jettisoned the markers.

Now hot, steamy, and exhausted, there was no way we were going back into the woods. Out the fire trail to the trailers we went.

By the time we got back to "warn" J4S of the track is was 92 mins later. He was already loaded up and ready to go home :cry

Making bad riding worse...I call it tree surfing!

When you ride as fast as I do, you do get plenty of time to see the turtles. And the Team Turtle Recovery Unit (TTRU) moment of the day...

    Just a little update:

Motomandan had been in the same area on a road for a day or so. Anyhow, he reported he lost his SPOT yesterday. It stopped transmitting, so likely it's been mashed by a wayward vehicle at this point. He's going to be buying a new one, in Anchorage.

Also in the news, it looks the it's kids before Xmas for our Iron Butt Rally Riders. They are all on scene!

Lee here (aka Bucco). My first attempt at joining a thread, so pls bear with me. My son and I rode with Eric at the BMW performance center in March '12, and I'm only now finding the SoMD Adventure Riders. I work in Pax River, live in Brandywine, and ride a red '11 R1200GS which I ride to work frequently. Hope to join you all for some rides.Thx!
