This cheesehead is at least 90% in! Can only plan so far ahead...Never been to a KTM rally or Colorado either, looking forward to meeting a lot of you! I'll see what Craigs exact plans are @ CADVR...
Just reserver a camp site (110) for the 11th through the 15th, hoping to get a few more guys from AZ to ride out with me. Let me know if your interested.
i'm in with mrs. aquaheshe. truck camper along the river. registered for event also with ktm. really looking forward to a great time!
CJ, any chance you're passing through or near Des Moines? I'd be interested in tagging along if I can make it work in my schedule.
I'm sure we'll be passing by, just not sure how close. Not that you could not meet up with us some place along the way. I've got 5 guys signed up so far for our group of 6. If interested please let me know asap. Please call me Thurs to go over dates, plans and what not. I'd love to take everyone along, but I need to make sure we can all keep a good pace. Larger the group the harder things get. If anyone is interested, feel free to email me, I'll do what I can to get you info on the ride. At this time I have no route planned, and may not have a set GPS track to follow that I can hand out anyways. Go where the winds and trails take us. Camp in the ditch, and eat bugs.....
CJ, If you have room for 1 more, I'm interested in riding out there with your group. I'm in the Mpls, Mn. area. Tom
Called Amber today. Set up my reservation for the 10th thru the 13th. Tent site 106 She sound like she was pretty stoked about the event. I'll be leaving on Monday the 9th, riding up from Colorado Springs at a very casual pace. I may camp a night on my way up. I'm trying to plot a back road route from CS. WJR
How do I sell this to my wife? If I'd go I could either ride my Yammi S10 or truck my smaller KTM of some sort and glamp in style. This could end up being a cheesehead rally in CO.
Group drop in camp site? I am 99.9 % in and haven't reserved a camp site yet. If anyone would let me park my bike and set up a backpack tent I would pay for a share and I'm totally self contained. At this time I plan on riding out by myself from Reno just because I haven't talked to anyone yet. If other Cal/NV guys are interested in getting a camp site reserved as a loose group let me know. Pay if you show type of deal. I am guessing that a camp site would hold a bunch of bikers tent camping and would be OK with the management. Just throwing this out as I have not called the camp ground yet. kj
If anyone is interested in a sweet off-road route to get to Steamboat (from the south), the new COBDR route starts in the 4 corners and goes right through Steamboat. I know Rob Watt (990 rider & the COBDR route creator) will be at the rally and is even helping with it. http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/COBDR We'll have some map prizes at the rally too.
the key campsites at that campground are right next to the river on either side of it. there is a bridge that connects the 2 parts. if i had a choice i'd be on the far side of the river away from the hiway. here's the restaurant guide. http://steamboat-dining.com/ i'm in Steamboat this weekend. there are 2 hot springs here http://steamboathotsprings.org/ - downtown http://www.strawberryhotsprings.com/2005/ - out of town about 30min via a fun dirt road.
When will the route be posted on the site for download? Or is it and I missed it? Please post a link if you have it. This would be a great ride for many coming to and from the rally. The maps are very nice and helpful. We used them on our WABDR and UTBDR ride last season. Well done and useful for any dualsport rider.
I just registered! See you guys there. Also, I just left a message for the campground to reserve a site along the river so that I can sneak in some fly fishing while I'm there. Let me know if anyone wants to share the site.
When I spoke with Amber, she said most likely the river will be dry by this time of year. Unless they get hammered with snow and rain. That was why we chose to move the sites for the Tech/work area close to the storage area. More room for bike work if need be and if we don't book up the Tent island, we'll keep the noise to one corner and everyone closer. Just a heads up. Great to see the excitement and riders making plans to attend!
Hey Tom, I'm tentatively planning on going to this as well if you are looking for another riding partner.
