I'm looking a for an inexpensive luggage rack to bolt to my factory GS rack so I can mount a givi case. I really like the altrider plate but it is too expensive. I have done lots of googling and have not found anything else to fit the bill. I have seen the givi plates and they are just ugly. Does anyone else make a plate like the altrider plate that is more affordable? http://www.altrider.com/altrider-rear-luggage-rack-for-bmw-r-1200-gs/pcid/843-14
SW Motech is almost $40 less http://www.twistedthrottle.com/sw-motech-steel-toprack-bmw-r1200gs-04 uses a similar GIVI mounting kit for another $20, compared to Altrider's $17 kit
Kip I saw that one but thought it needed another plate as an adapter. The extra hardware on top of the plate threw me off. I was hoping someone on the board was making one at a reasonable price. Thanks Kip.
I put the stainless GSA rack on my GS, along with the Givi E250 universal mounting plate, but the GSA rack is pretty hard to find used and something over $300 new (IIRC)
I just bolted my cheap JC Whitney plate to the stock rack: So long as you don't carry anything more than 10-15 pounds in it, especially off road, it will be fine! Jim
I went on the jc Whitney website and could not find the plate only the trunk. Can you order just the plate? I can't complain about 47 bucks for everything but I just don't need the trunk. Thanks for posting pictures Jim.
JC Whitney doesn't sell just the plate. Givi does, but it will run close to the same price of $47. Jim
Check out 2x2cycles they have a great DIY rack that is aluminum and they are also a givi dealer I My father and I both have there adv racks and bicycle racks and love them link at the bottom to there website. http://2x2cycles.com/products/accessories/
I use the plate from GSessories which replaces the rear seat. I mounted my existing givi plate from the previous bike to the GSessoreis plate after drilling and tapping an additional 2 holes. This keeps the Givi 46L bag much lower and more forward for better weight distribution. If you dont normally carry a passenger, this is a great option, and you can remove the plate and replace the rear seat in seconds. http://gsessories.com/product_info.php?products_id=126
