KTM 690 clutch cover protection ?

After the hole I put in my 2010 690 clutch cover today, I'm looking for appropriate protection. Here's what I've found:

- KTM offers a carbon fibre "cover", but it barely covers any of the clutch cover (only the bottom).
- G-IT makes what appears to be the best option:

I've seen lots of what appear to be full coverage options for the LC8 such as CJ's excellent clutch covers (http://www.cjdesignsllc.com/products/lc8-clear-clutch-cover-base/), but cant find anything for the LC4. Would appreciate any info/insight fellow inmates can offer....

I had carbon fiber protection on my yz-250f. I dropped the bike and a rock punched a hole directly through the carbon fiber and into the water pump housing ruining a good day of riding.

Carbon Fiber is terrible in resisting punctures. That is what kevlar was made for.

If the Carbon Fiber protection does not have a kevlar layer in its makeup I would not consider it for engine protection and, even then, would be a little hesitant. The Kevlar works by giving a little and not breaking. The stock engine covers don't give at all, they just break and they are directly behind the kevlar.

With that said, I have the G-it engine guards.

So, now its time to order a replacement clutch cover (part #75030001044), and KTM North America is back ordered 3 weeks !
(guess mine isnt the only one with a hole in it )

Any recommendations as to where to find one ?

Is the cover broken in a spot that the G-it gaurd will cover? If so you could always JB-weld the hole up and silicon the gaurd on and forget about it. Even if you replace the cover later, this may get you by and you can just pry off the gaurd later and silicon it to the new cover. As far as findiing a replacement cover, I'm coming up empty so far.

(as KTM NA is backordered on this part I) Pulled the old cover off today, and am researching wether JBweld will hold with magnesium....

It sure will, as a matter of fact, they even make a putty that works just like Quiksteel http://bluemagicusa.com/index.php/b...eel_reinforced_epoxy_putty_2_oz_blister_pack/ that sets up in 5 minutes and won't run everywhere when you apply it http://www.jbweld.com/product/j-b-steelstik/ . It has repaired more than a few broken clutch covers (XR650R magnesium cover, yz125) / engine cases (klx110, cr250, yz125) on my trail rides and never needed further attention.

PS: further examination shows my cover is hooped - as it has a giant gash, and is pushed inward (sharp edges, may contact the clutch plates, mag dont bend back into shape all that well....), so I'm not gonna add any mass to the inside.
And, as a fellow 690 rider has a clutch cover with minimal damage, that'll tide me over till the new cover arrives

Do you know whether riders at the Dakar Rallye are using a clutch cover protection? I mean, if someone really needs those, it is them.

I know this is an old thread but I was looking for some 690 Clutch Cover info. Those Dakar guys should be running clutch covers no matter what!
Do any of you have your old damaged clutch covers you want to part with? I make the Case Savers for a lot of the KTM's and have some people asking for the 690. I don't currently make it but if I could get an old cover, I can most likely make a prototype. :)

Old thread. But do any of you guys who replaced clutch covers have an old one you'd part with? I need the round gasket which holds the round access cover. Ktm only sells complete cover for $150 ish.

Has anybody just welded the inner and outer cover?

I ended up supergluing inner to outer piece. Then stuck on a TrailJammer aluminum protector with RTV sealant. Worked like a champ!

ik make my own casesaver.
From a plate 2 mm stainless steel and heatresistant siliconen.
very strong.
ik cut it out with a Jigsaw.
