argh still so undecided......thats a lot of dough to drop and no race schedule out yet... so pretty much i figure i will arrive thursday and leave monday..really dont want to try to get out sunday night figure its a mad rush. And i wonder what the entry limit is ? whats the criteria to make it in ? i figure if D37 is out of it it will probably be first come first served ?

Which rental company are you dealing with?

Sure would love to race Catalina this year. Wish the organizers would start providing some info...

I used Catalina Vacation Rentals. I've been told that the rental brokers will refund deposit if race doesn't go through (you should check that for yourself).

I'm told the promoters have been up to their armpits in alligators with more than just this race. Nothing is set in stone yet. But geez, its still almost 6 months away.

    Thanks SB.

Yes, it is a long ways off. Just would like confirmation that it will indeed occur. Otherwise, I may make plans to head to Baja instead. I'll probably just make reservations on Catalina, and hope for the best. Guess I can always cancel if the race is a no-go...

My father raced Catalina in either '57 or '58. Would be neat to do the same race!

From someone born, raised, and still lives on the island, is a bike rider, and knows all of "the powers that be" involved on a first name basis.

    cool cool....

I will be very curious to see how the race pans out this time around seeing that it's not being put on by District clubs. I would say that ordinary riders have a much lower chance of being able to race this time because of this.

Any idea as to when they plan on making any kind of announcements about it? I would also like to put a deposit down on a rental before they start getting expensive but that would be foolish if Im not going to get the chance to race....

last time the rental we got was perfect! It came complete with a golf cart.

Perhaps some Hilltopper who knows could chime in but, the Hilltoppers (as a District club) were not the ones who put the race on. However, that doesn't mean that they didn't do all of the physical work!

I would think that the average rider should be more likely to get in this next time around with classes down into Novice. Remember that last time you were SUPPOSED to have been an EXPERT.

Still being told the main power that is, is buried in another project. Don't expect anything soon.

The word is that the rentals prices will remain as off-season rates and not be raised just for this one weekend. There is limited space and getting in early is smart.

    From Catalina Grand Prix facebook

"The Catalina Grand Prix will not happen this year with My Cuzzin Vinnie or The Big 6. We are unaware of any plans of a race for 2012."

Yeah, Cuzzin Vinnie was out after the first race, I don't know about if The Big 6 was involved for this next round or not.

I got a phone call last night saying that the race most likely will not happen after all. Looks like island politics and bureaucracy are killing it. "Permits" needed are being delayed and people are dragging their feet. The deposit on my house rental is being returned. Oh well, looks like we got our one and only chance. Too bad it was a lot of fun.

I think that's why everyone scrambled to race it last year.

Bummer - I was really looking forward to participating this year. Hopefully, it will work out again at some point in the future...

    :cry

that sucks. I started racing GP's this year in an effort to try and get better at the whole MX thing.

I definitely in the back of my mind knew that taking advantage of participating in the 2010 race was probably going to be the only chance for me to compete out there.

The pic of me with the casino in the background made it all worth it....
