With high winds predicted for today, and knowing the direction it normally blows, I headed for one of my favorite canyons.

The desert is greening up, must be time for me to head north soon!:D
    [IMG]

    In between rocks like this.....

And sweet sand with no tracks like this.............

This guy could be waiting for you!

Judging by the tail, I think it was a Blacktail rattler.

Pushing up the canyon I really enjoyed the solitude.

I had not rode beyond the rocks behind the bike in the past.

    More awesome canyon.

    And more awesome riding.

    The good stuff was relentless!

    And I mean GOOD STUFF!!!

This ledge stopped the show for today.

    So I turned around.......

On my merry way and I come up on this guy.

The second Gila Monster I've seen on a ride in less than a week.

    Back to work!!!

    Orange.....

    On orange!

    Some gnarly stuff.

Finishing up on some nice two track.

As much as I enjoy the Sonoran desert, I am itching for a summer of mountain singletrack!

has anyone here got a slide hammer and a bearing puller for a outer race with an inside diameter of 1.65 inches(42mm)?

its the lower bearing on the steering stem of an airhead. and please dont say "just tap it out from above"... cuz you can't. there is no straight line access and very little engagement area:deal

If you can't get a sharp punch to bite you will have a hard time getting a puller to grab the race. I have at times welded a piece across the outer race so I had something to drive the race out.
Don't forget to grind two notches in the frame, inside the steering head, when you have the race out so it will be easy next time. Airheads should be kept running for as long as fossil fuels are still available [IMG].

itisnt that there is no bite room above the race, its thatthere is not a line of sight access to iti have no doubt there is a bmw tool.

in any case, i found a guy thru the oldschool airhead forum that makes a tool for it for 40 bucks. meh.

I'll go along depending on when you head up there. I've been pretty busy with work but might be able to fit it into a weekend schedule some time.

I'll see what the wife has planned. Saturday is my day to do some vehicle maintenance at the house so I gave her Sunday. As long as she's not making any big plans I may be able to take the morning.

Since I didn't get to ride it a couple of weeks ago, I rode Montezuma Pass this morning. Great morning for a ride. Putting together a movie and some pics...will post later.

Anyone looking to ride, let me know.

Will probably go back out that way on my way to Antelope Wells, NM to start the CDT this summer.

GT isn't a trail ride for sure... It's a great dirt route to a good sandwich with friends.

Others who have ridden it may weigh in on the CDT, but from what I've seen in pics videos and stories, I think it's alot of dirt like the GT with the occasional rough patch.

CDT has a little of everything. There are hundreds of miles of fast fire roads like GT. The two track is incredible and the forest were a fun treat for us desert rats. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an adventure.

Do they charge money at that ranch to cross their property on the GT?

No toll booths on the GT .

The sandwiches in portal aren't cheap tho:)

The Slaughter Ranch is off Geronimo Trail on its own side road.

It's worth a visit if you're interested in AZ history. Take a picnic lunch. There is an entry fee to visit the ranch but that has nothing to do with GT.

Thanks guys. That sign made it look like the road goes through the ranch and they were charging to pass. For a minute I thought it was Brooklyn.:rofl
