Very nice new Tiger...was curious if it could be dirt-ified after the company street-ified it during the last model change.

This is my swapmeet cheapo 1981 Yamaha XV920RH. The RH indicates it's one of the early chain drive version of the Virago.
I made a skid pan /tool box to protect the bottom. There are no frame tubes under the motor. To mount the pan I cut down some UJM 4 banger crash bars and made my own mounts. The side braces for the crash bars are old drag handlebars. I put on some wide solid aluminum dirt bike handle bars and added some hand guards. The wind deflectors on the guards were cut down car mirrors.
I made the pannier mounts from an old ATV luggage rack that was scrap. The boxes came with a different bike and were used on my cross country trip because they're huge.
Other than that ,all I did was put on some Shinko's.
The pics are from.Kentucky, New Mexico twice ,Arizona, Utah and Oregon. My Ride Report is titled Skeedadle to Seattle.

Someone asked about getting the Tiger dirty since the change over; While most of my riding is street, I have taken it off road a few times. I find two issues with it off road. The small front tire is really squirrly and as tall as I am 6'5" with a 38 inch inseam (all legs) I find it hard to stand up on. Someone without my vertical issues would probably be ok.

If I could get a set of Anakee's on it I would be really happy, but they dont make a front tire that size.

Its great for me. I have considered a GS 1200 ADV simply because of my size. I just cant get past the sticker.

Good job, Baker. I like your approach on this bike. Harks back to the days before all the farkle manufacturers when you had to make do with what you had.

I noticed in your thread that you want to extend the back shock. Careful with that. The chain might rub up against the casing. The front sprocket is not as close to the rear of the engine as DS or off road bikes. It was a consideration with mine but I opted to leave it stock. Maybe a one inch fabricated extension would work for more ground clearance.
    Good luck

Awesome, I really like where this is going. This is what Honda should've built instead of the Varadero

Yup, I need to check this. I may get bigger front and rear sprockets to prevent this.

Those side radiators can be a huge issue if you had to drop it on the trail! They had the same problem on the varadero.

Bought a non running GL400 [CX500 clone] off TradeMe here in New Zealand & set about converting it to a Paris Dakar style adventure bike
I added various parts including an entire Yamaha DT200 front end with clocks off a CB400 & Renthal bars,a BMW G/S front fender & fairing,a pair of modded Ducati 900SS sidecovers,Guzzi NTX fork covers,a pair of 2" longer S&W's,a seat off a Suzuki custom & a rear fender off a Triumph T300
made a folding gearlever out of a spanner & added dirt bike pegs
Its now got 2 into 1 headers with an alloy can & a K&N airfilter
Im still playing with the seat foam & will cover it in probably blue vynil
