The inner workings of mine from today's clutch replacement. Toasted it back in May in nasty Mississippi Mud on the TAT. Finally got off my ass and fixed it today.
Yeah. I had mine out for a bit, those studs make all the difference. I was sliding all over the place. I have tires on order, getting them studded as soon as they come in. All typos and misspellings blamed on my phone.
It's a friend's bike, my stuff is on order right now. He drilled the holes with a drill press and went to the tire shop, they are just regular automotive studs. They charged him $12 per tire to put them in. The Aerostich studs would have been over $100. He said they work great. Yesterday on his way to work he said he passed 5 or 6 stuck cars. He also drove his wife's jeep to the gas station in the morning, a 4x4 wrangler, and said the jeep was sliding around more than the bike does. I think I have a few more pictures on my phone, I'll look.

He said it was time consuming but not that bad. One tip he gave me was to talk to the tire shop and see what size studs they have before you drill. He drilled the holes for a size they didn't have. Better than paying the $100 for the aerostich stuff, and less work since the shop is studding instead of you. I'm planning on telling the tire shop it's for a dirt bike, I don't know how they'll feel about studding a 'motorcycle' tire.
With a sign like that seems it would be a trail system.Is it just south of Hocking Hills area? I get down that way every so often, can you give more info ?
It's the Monday creek trail system, listed here: http://waynenationalforest.com/wayneatv.htm#monday We had a great time. Trails are hard but not too bad. I was on the XR and the KLR is bronciii's. Some sections were a bit interesting. I still have no idea how he made a few of the hill climbs in the dark. We got lost a few times, it's easy to miss some of the trail markers in the middle of the night. Here's the map of the area. Basically we rode most of the trails in the bottom left the first night, so dark the whole time. Leaving we took the red trail all the way through and hit the road home from there. A food truck was parked in the middle of the red trail that morning with drinks and sandwiches, took a break there. Maybe take the red trail out, eat, ride that area, then head back through for more riding. Planning on going back at least once next summer.
Thanks for the info.I suspected that was the area.I rode most of the gravel forest roads all through there on a fully loaded gs, but have not got a chance to check out the trails yet.
The forest road themselves are fun through there. For us it was about 150 miles from home, took all day to get there because We were playing on the roads. I wouldn't take a gs on the trails, might be a bit much. Then again I wouldn't take a stock klr with bald tires and camping gear either, and he made it.
