yep its a poormans motard but it is heaps of fun in the twistys, the Battlax are not to bad on gravel as well. My next experiment will be to go back to the Dunlop 606's for a while, I also have a set of Michelin S12 for clay and the stock Trailwings, bloody confusing really

If you get sick of your current job, ride around Australia, take shitloads of photos & publish a coffee table book.

On your tyre & bike choice, I hear you on the pain-in-the-arse of changing tyres all the time. I ended up getting a second set of rims (second-hand) one set (alloy, unpainted-these are most likely to have tyres changed in the bush) have 606s front & rear. Like 'em. Do wander on the knobs at high speed (110km+) but seem sure footed most of the time.

I also have Tourances on black painted rims. Came with the bike. My mate Supamanaint calls them "Scareances" especially in the wet :eek1. When they are worn out, will go with Conti TK60s. Use these for tar touring and commuting to work. Not overly happy, but good enough for now.

Have a look at a big single instead of your V-Strom. I have an XT660R, good compromise on & off road. Not an MX Mud-Slinger but a great all rounder. Cheers & thanks for the awesome photos, Boneman

Cracking day today and I have to go to the shops for something, I have taken jtb's advice and had a go a taking some pickies of stuff that's about 5 mins from home, a huge journey of 33kms

My local shop is in Warrandyte, this is the Yarra river, looks nice but I wouldnt swim in it. Most houses are on septic tank and the outflows go into the river when it rains a lot.



The bridge over the Yarra at Warrandyte, the road heads north to the hills, I bet heaps of Melbourne ADV riders have crossed this

I used to swim in the river a lot when I was younger

Maybe... don't ride it on the road much anymore. Might go for a spin up to kinglake this Sunday for an easy ride while my ribs are healing.

I had to take a coffee table up to my folks place in Castlemaine so I loaded the WR as well for a bit of an explore






The trail into Moonlight flat a big gold digging area in the 1800's, at one time more than 15,000 crammed into this little area













When I was 16 a mate had an old HR Holden bush basher, we took down this track in the wet and broke the steering column, ended up doing a 360° surprisingly we never hit a fence

I remember as a kid there was a bee keeper here, this is all that left




Pennyweight Flat a childrens cemetery

This is a sad place, strangely silent, over 200 children buried here in mostly unmarked graves,




























The trees started growing after the burials, circle of life I suppose

I lived here for over 20 years and that is only the 3rd time I have been to Pennyweight Flat
