He is riding so well I wish I had learned at his age.

A question I see he is AGATT, (well done and I read the consequences - doubly well done) did you buy him a neck brace, I was curious about that?

Considering a neck brace. Initially, I was OK without him wearing one. As he moves up the gears, though...
Next time he's with me at a gear shop I'm going to try one of those low-tech ones on for size (fabric-covered foam collar - about $40 I think), to see how they function on him.
    He'll probably get one.

I was also considering a little more equipment for jrcool this winter. He's getting bored with his 100 and I fear(not really) speeds are about to go up. His coat is fully armoured and knees are good but we have never done anything for our necks.

Have you ordered the screws for his ice tires yet?

I'm actually thinking about a bit of a bulk order if we can get RobbieO to hook us up with a supplier. Little guy tires are pretty easy to build and I have at least one set of big boy tires to deal with, more if you want some. I can't bring myself to part with $1k for 2 tires wth the amount I went through this summer.

Let us know what you come up with on the neck protection front.

    Cool,
We picked up an extra set of tires a couple of months ago, so I just need to figure out the studs.
What should I look for? Shortish studs, or do I need additional prep inside the tires? Cheap is a priority - since I figure the number of rides these tires will get might not be very high.
As for neck protection - I figure we'll probably go to the January show and see what's available. I saw something simple at Royal a while back - looked like it would help. I'd pay more for something good - but a leat brace might be overkill, since he's not likely to ever race. Just want reasonable protection for fun riding.

Dave remember the little guy wearing the ktm or leat neck brace when we went up to the lake last year. I think there might be a photo in your collection. I wonder what does run.

I would suggest about 750 gold 5/8 screws. I have some great belting that works as a liner for the jr size tires. By mailorder the screws are about $60/1000.

Don't forget the safety gloves and something to wrap the tires with

Ya, that little dude had factory sponsor by the look of his rig.

I advised jr not to hit the drift cause it hurts.

If I learned anything from last year it was not to ice ride when it's warm out. It may be nice for spectators but the ice sux.

I can't wait to see the jr's playing cat and mouse on the lake this winter.

    no crashes this year

    It's infectious!

After taking a few rides last summer, his big sister showed some interest.
I surprised her with her own bike this weekend - a Yamaha RT100. Mmmmm, two-smoke goodness...
She's stoked - looking forward to the summer, now.

In case anyone's missing my point - RIDE WITH YOUR KIDS! There are few things I've ever done that I've enjoyed more.

    Update:

A couple of weeks ago I raised the boy's bars to extend the time he'd fit the bike. Cheap option instead of upgrading right now. He's loving it!
Since then, he's been introduced to woods riding (we live in some pretty great terrain). He's taken to it very well. Here's a pic of him zipping past on some single track (sort of). The shot sucks because he's too quick to get a bead on - particualrly through the no-track sections we have to cross to get to trails. That little bike is so narrow he can get through almost anything!

I had a PW50 for my three sons last summer. Each would wait (fairly) patiently for their turn. It was great to see them ride, but what I really wanted was to be riding with them as a group.

    So...here is what I did...

I still have one more coming. No more sharing!

Now my wife says she wouldn't mind a little trail bike!! I am actually thinking that I may get rid of my bike and buy two smaller and lighter green-plated bikes so the whole family can go out riding together. I can't wait!! :clap
