I think to remember that this was mentioned last year already.
He is a good MX rider and good on the race cource.
So he can ride well in a circle on never changing well maintained grounds.

Navigation and reading terrain and having the stamina and mind to race hour after hour, day after day for weeks?
He will do well but not as well as he thinks, I'm sure.

So... any other GP/Superbike rider entered the Dakar or other main Rally Raids races in the past? I remember for sure Kevin Schwantz at the Australian Safari and Gramigni at the Nevada Rally (both finishers), any other?

Darryl Beattie (500cc GP rider) has ridden the Australian Safari (@ 2000/01 ?) also... He showed good pace and could read the terrain ok, but crashed going just a bit faster than the route instructions could be read.

Naaah... the Oz outback is outside of Scott's comfort zone I reckon... that's my old playground. I'd call my mate Richie Hayes (descendent pastoralist son of the Hayes family - one of the pioneer families of Central Australia). From a photo he would be able to identify exactly where it was and then walk you to the location. :lol3

That being said, I am pretty sure that Darryl crashed on a stage that was set on either the Maryvale or Deep Well cattle stations.

Aussie ADV fans and followers of the Finke Desert Race will recognise those names. :thumb

    :stupid

:dealYou must have ditched 5th period reading Mike...? :brow:lol3

    :wave

(PS: Gian's post - about Kevin - was directly above the one I posted about Darryl... which is why I did not mention Schwantz.)

PPS: I was competing in the 2000 Safari that Schwantz rode... I remember it well.

Doctor and the Dakar can only mix in a bucket list / adventure type endeavor not a competitive one and for sure not in 2015.
April fools, comes late in some parts of Europe I guess, as a kid I would make a whole week of festivities out of it.

Don't get me wrong, I love the guy and would never doubt his abilities on a bike, but anyone buying this is smoking some good stuff.

Get in touch with the Speed fans over on Planet RG around about the 15th of December (that's usually when Robby makes the first press release about whatever his lastest Dakar all conquering effort is gonna be...).

Going on the past record, the hyped faithful must smoke/toke/drop some real good stuff... :rofl

So I watched the highlights from the last race... Gordon dropped out due to fuel starvation problems? What about the other American off-road truck guy?

B.J. Baldwin and Quinn Cody: Didn't that vehicle break down too? I think it was something about the air intake maybe.

I think this is the R Gordon approach to preparing each year's Dakar effort:

the whole "let's build a car, do a one day "test" at glamis and head for dakar" approach seems to work out
depending on what you got in the pipe
