does any know if there is a lamp located at the top of the tach on a 06 gsa just behind the and below the black plastic bezel, looks like there is some sort of meltdown going on at that point with the plastic making a ugly transformation. thanks, peter.

    Pictures....

There is a well known problem with the windscreen in that sun will magnify and cause a hot spot on the tach and melt it.

No joke - it happened to mine. Strange but conditions have to be right of course.

If you bike has sat in the sun you may have a simple windscreen induced melt point.

Mine is seen as a small 7mm wide smooth spot on the top of the tach - at about 11pm and a distorted surface. I have no pics yet - but will go out and take one for you.

    Crazy...

Does it look something like this?

If so, it's pretty common on the Adventure. When it happened on mine, BMW replaced the entire gauge cluster under warranty no questions asked. The next time it happens though, it will be on me.:(:

I almost bought an 07 a few years back that had a mark across the face of gauge kind of like a hot knife had touched it. I asked salesman about it and he was dumbfounded. I had heard of the same issue on Honda ST1300s as I had one that melted. I painted the inside of my 13 GSA gloss black, no worries out here in the west Texas sun. It looks awesome to me as well. D.

You painted the whole screen? or just the bottom section?
Love to see a picture of this.

This happened to my 2012 GSA. Does anyone know if it happens if one has the BMW tinted windscreen. chip

Thanks to all with your replies, it still blows me away that might be a solar issue, and why is only on the tach. peter

This was an issue with the 2nd gen Suzuki SV650S too. If the sun hit the windshield at just the right angle, it acted like a magnifying glass and melted a spot on the gauge cluster.

Yes I painted the whole screen, sorry I cant post pictures but I look over the shield anyway. it might block a small area directly in front if you try to look at your front tire area, but I am 6'4'' and have seat on high plus an airhawk on top and my knees still bother me due to long legs. Out here with sand and gravel and a constant stream of 18 wheelers I already have rock damage to screen, and with paint on inside it is always like new. D.

I'll have to use my imagination :)

I look mostly over mine except tor the TT spoiler on top.
I guess I could use paper to simulate the experience.

Sprayed the inside of the screen matt black on my 1100GS. Looks gloss from the front, matt from the back. I never noticed any significant limitation on line of sight as I look well over the top of it. If I was doing it again, I might paint it silver, then black - so it looks silver from the front but matt black on my side.

My '07 was doing it until I painted the inside of the screen. OBTW, I cut the screen to a cafe size, so I am not trying to look through a tall screen.

Yep. They all do that. Mine melted one, replaced under warranty. After the second meltdown I installed an accessory shelf and an aluminum bezel cover. Out of sight out of mind. :D
