Ditto man, I think we'll all get along just fine Was this the trail on the North side of 4 mile that you mentioned? The Wife and I ran it in and out back to the tunnels one evening. She loved it
Here's some from the north side of Four mile; as you can see much sandier and very little scree In your photo you are up quite a bit higher because you are into coniferous forrest...
Yes, that looks very familiar to me. The sandy stuff at the access is fun, especially the cool river crossing. That section of fast two track with the whoops in it was a blast two up..... Me to the wife.. "Ok, here comes a jump..... LIFT!.......and again.... LIFT!" We jumped thos things two up and giggled like little kids We passed a few four wheelers two up and they cheered as we went hammering by
As everyone said, it's Kane creek, but like BoulderGuy said, do it the other direction than in the vid. I just came back from Moab, and some morons have bolted some metal shoots to the rocks on the bypass of the nasty section. Going the direction of the vid (as I like to do Kane creek), you would have to come up out of a river and try to get up these metal planks. On our thumpers it was a pain, on a 950/990 a real bitch to get traction. So go the direction BoulderGuy said and you'll be going down the planks. Apart from the bypass which is a lot of fun, there is only one other section that'll be a bitch on a 950, just a rocky down and up section that's at the beginning of the vid. It's a lot worse now than in that vid. But, Kane creek is a fun quite easy ride. BTW, going the direction we are suggesting, on the first rocky climb (3/4 way through the ride), look for a cut-off to the left when you get to a plateau, that's the bypass, and a shit load more fun than keeping on the trail. BTW, In the vid, they took the bypass.
I have ridden Kane Creek a few times on my SE. Every time I have gone out to the highway and then back. I usually take the bypass on the way out and the main on the way back in. That is the easiest.
Thanks for the tips guys, really looking forward to riding it. Waiting for my ride and with luck we'll be on the road to Moab by Noon!
Wow would I like to do this. There is a great route from Bolam Pass that climbs up from Co. 145 towards Dunton and goes up over to Lone Cone and pops out at Norwood. Beautiful route. From there you can get up on the Uncompahgre Divide and go all the way to Gateway where you can get on John Brown Canyon road which takes you into the Lasalls and right to Moab. Very dirty route. Outside chance I can join in Moab and maybe do part of the return ride. Thank you for being inclusive of fellow inmates. Jim
Jimmex: that's exactly what I was planning on doing from Rico.. I was talking with Wes Weber the other day and he was showing me it. You don't know actual road numbers do you?
This Gazeteer Map is challenging my eyesight but here goes: ( the route is easy to follow and is well traveled) You go from Rico 6 or 7 mi. on Co. 145 to FR535 with a "Dunton" sign, turn left, the road traverses right up the mountainside and you go for several miles until you come to a T. Don't go to Dunton but turn right on FR611. This road will take you over to Lone Cone. I can't make out the smaller FR numbers but you want to head to Beaver Park and then down to Norwood. Its easy and gorgeous country. From Norwood you head over to Nucla then up on the Uncompahgre Divide via Mesa Rd to Colombine Pass. Once on the Divide Road you motor over to Gateway, descend down into Dolores Canyon and hit John Brown Canyon Rd just outside Gateway. That road will take you into the Lasals and Utah with Moab just over the Mtns. Any decent map will show the route. It is awesome. Maybe I'l catch you guys on the WEst Slope somewhere. Jim
The mountains got snow from loveland to vail last night - trail ridge road got shut down due to snow. More inbound tonight. The routing is going to get interesting :eek1 - New Mexico is pretty this time of year eh?
Gotta cross from Cali into Reno Nevada at altitude and they are predicting Precip. Might be an interesting ride.
The mountains west of us here (the Indian Peaks) have snow down to about 9500 feet this morning :eek1 the good news is that the forecast Tuesday is looking better... and as far as I know.. the mountains south didn't get as much precipitation. Webster Pass will probably be a no go but the other passes south should still be rideable Fingers crossed.
Ruh roh.. I just found this Ridgeway cam. This would be looking south with Ridgeway in the foreground and Ouray in that valley to the left. That means the snow on the right is Imogene pass and the snow on the left is on Engineer pass. I might have to put together some snow chains Actually the snow looks a lot lighter than over here in the Front Range. A few days of sun (which is forecast) and it'll be rideable
