Most of the major tinkering is done for now (knock wood),
    Just takes extra PM.

I have been looking for one of these unique rides at the right price for some time now. Don't want to spend a fortune but need something that will be reliable. Coincidentally I found a bike very simlar to yours and would love to get your perspective on this year model. I have read some posts on the shortcomings of the '02 that scare me a bit as I would classify myself as more of a tinkerer then a mechanic.
Here's the CL link on the bike I am considering:

Well it's over 3 years now since it came home with me and I've got over 13,000km on the clock.
Did not have to make any repairs this year, just normal fluid changes and riding it almost every day to work till this month.
I can't tell which alternator is on that Ural Bavarian Classic you are looking at but if it has a Denso the price isn't that bad. The used value has gone up since my purchase.

Just remember that the engine is a weird mix if 650 parts with new 750 parts mixed in. If you aren't afraid to jump in with both feet I think you will have a blast!

Nice lookig rig on CL for $4500 or less would be a good first rig to get your feet wet:freaky

You could take it Hunting and throw a MN whitetail in the sidecar.
