Hoosier Trail Master put together a ride on the infamous Rug Road out of Mammoth, AZ. He had quite the collection of victims for today's ride! HTM - Gas Gas 300 Strappy - KTM 300 Yardstick - KTM 530 Slowred - KTM 350 4play - KTM 600 Nightstalker - Honda 450X RWAZ - Polaris RZR 4 Door Staging overlooking Mammoth.
HTM starts up the first tough hill on his new to him Gas Gas 300. HTM wanted to make sure the rest of us new where all the tough spots were. Back in the saddle.
Not much for level ground on this ride! This is the hill they call the "RUG". Yardstick demonstrates how steep it is. Crazy rocky!
I didn't many pictures coming down the hill. My hands were locked onto the handlebars. I took some riding up the next hill. Slowred managed to crash right behind me! He was alright and continued on. Looking back.
Slowred nearing the saddle. Half the team at the top. HTM and RWAZ arriving. Rug Road coming down the hill in the distance.
There was quite the debate at the top. No one really wanted to ride up the RUG, no one really wanted to take the 185 mile alternate route out, few thought they had enough fuel to make it to the gas station at the 120 mile mark.... A group of side-by-sides and ATV riders stopped to chat with us at the top. They informed us there was another option! We all listened intently as they directed us to the yellow brick road that would take us safely back to Mammoth in just a short 12 miles or so!! We headed back down the hill, in search of the ribbons that would mark our escape route. FOUND! You call that a road?
We found this along the trail on the way down. Ghostrider? Hydrophobic Yardstick at a deep water crossing. Oasis in the desert. Easy riding from here back. 29 Helen's agree.
HTM knew of a food joint close by, close by was good enough!! HTM enjoys his mega burrito! I got the BACON cheeseburger with onion rings, so good!! He LOVES the onion rings!!
Ya, what the report didn't tell you is it took me 3 hours to get to the "saddle". It was far worse than what it had been the last time we did it Drew. That coupled with me riding a 2 smoke I could't handle really pressed us for time. My right leg is twice as big as my left today from the 5000 kicks yesterday. Thanks guys for the patience...never again without an electric start.
