Tucson Area Rides Thread

Tomorrow I am going over to my dad's house and pick up and ride my TW200 back home.

Ride Name: East Side Cochise Ride
Date: 8/29/10 Sunday
Meeting time: 8:00 A.M.
Meeting location: Gas City on Fry Blvd/Hwy 90 Bypass. Sierra Vista, AZ
Estimated Length of Ride: +/- 300 miles
Difficulty: Easy
Notes: Big bike friendly, easy pace on 50/50 paved/gravel roads. We'll head east to Douglas, then take Geronimo Trail over to Animas, Rodeo, Portal, then over the Chiricahuas and back south to Douglas, or cut over to Tombstone via Middlemarch Road.

Rt 191 Ride

Notes: Cathy and I are in Durango and planning on making it over to Alpine tomorrow. We'd like to camp at Hannagan Meadow south of Alpine and ride 191 Sunday morning back to Tucson. All you FF's are invided to come up on Saturday, camp over night and ride back to Tucson in the morning. We'll supply drinks for anyone who shows up. We just finished 3200 miles in 8 days. Cathy's got her first shower in a few days so things should be pleasant. Hike up your skirts, pack your tents and come on up.

Ride Name: Arivaca, the easy way.
Date: Sunday, Aug 29th
Meeting time: Stands up @ 8am
Meeting location: Shell station @ Ajo and Tucson Estates Parkway (1 mile W of Kinney RD)
Estimated Length of Ride: 2 - 3 hours, one way
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate on a big bike
Notes: This is normally a easy big bike route, but with the monsoons, it is hard to tell. It is usually not very muddy, only 2 longish stretches of sand (which compacts nicely when it is wet). Breakfast in Arivaca, then ??????

Notes: Trying to get a route that incorporates some dirt and secondary roads. Will avoid I-10 unless it gets late when we get to Sierra Vista or Benson.

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate on a big bike
Notes: Phil is having one of his phartys at his phalatial estate (2nd or 3rd home) up on Mt. Lemmon. He says you bring yourself and he will bring the beer and soda. My plan is to ride down the frontside well before sunset.

Ride Name: Santa Ritas Exploration
Date: Sunday Sept. 5
Meeting time: 0700
Meeting location: Wilmot & Sahuarita at the gate
Estimated Length of Ride: All day. Early exits not a problem. Breaks in the shade when available.
Difficulty: Intermediate to hard
Notes: Bring lots of water. We'll wait for slow people; noobs won't cut it. Planning on hanging out at the sawmill trail head for a while when we get there. Curvy steep trails in areas. The terrain is all screwed up from the weather. Holiday weekend probably means more people out riding.

Anyone that wants to sleep at my house Saturday night is welcome.

Estimated Length of Ride: About four hours each way plus an overnight camp.
Difficulty: Easy
Notes: email kdap@netzero.net subject line "ride rsvp" for directions as I am posting this ride in several locations. The route will have a lot of pavement but will be scenic and interesting. I have replaced as much of the boring sections as possible with either dirt or more interesting slab. The pace will be medium to slow. There will be plenty of stops, so feel free to stop and take pictures without fear of being left behind. All riders should be completely self sufficient. Bring all your own food and drinks. We will have a support vehicle with several coolers to transport food and drinks only but nothing will be provided. Please label anything going in the coolers. Other than that, if it doesn't fit on your bike, it doesn't go.

Notes: Relatively easy trails, laid back pace. We're exploring the dirt roads south of the Shell Station to get to Montezuma Pass. Likely visit with Becky's parents down there. People can come and split halfway through the ride if they don't want to ride all day. Time permitting, ride through box canyon, then across to the mine road and down to the Wilmot gate to finish off the ride.

Ride Name: Death in the Desert V
Date: 10/10/10
Meeting time: Stands up at 0800
Meeting location: Shell station @ Ajo & Tucson Estates Parkway
Estimated Length of Ride: 1/2 day +/-, depending on your return route
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate.
Notes: No one has actually died on this ride -- yet. But, I have not been through since before the monsoon. It used to be big bike friendly (assuming a good rider), but who knows how it is now.

Minimum distance to gas = ~70 miles.

Minimum distance on pavement = the first 20 miles and the last 5 miles on the way to Arivaca. The return trip can be the same, or more pavement/less dirt, depending on your mood.

Pace: I'll be moving at a moderate speed, we'll regroup at the major intersections.

This ride will have single track,sand washes,graded roads, and some climbs, if you have not ridden this area it's a fun ride with all types of desert riding conditions. 60+ miles no gas/no H20 on the loop.

Meeting Location: Parking area north of I-10 at the Houghton and I-10 interchange.
Ride Length: Appox 9 hours +
Difficulty: Well, it is paving but inattention will let you drop off a cliff or hit an animal. Gravel and/or rocks in the roads on sharp turns and beautiful scenery to distract you...

Pace: I will be on the Scrambler, 70-75 on the interstate and not too spirited in the corners.

We'll be taking the sport bikes on this one.
We'll be on good twisty pavement for the whole ride.
We'll be staying overnight in Springerville.
We'll be staying in a motel since it's too cold for camping now, for me.

Difficulty: Quick pace, but we will wait @ cross roads, not big bike friendly.
This ride will have single track, sand washes, graded roads, and some climbs, if you have not ridden this area it's a fun ride with all types of desert riding conditions. 50+ miles, no gas, no water, weather should be perfecto with starting temps in the low 60's. Phast Phil will be bringing his game so expect some Phast riding and Phast talking. Probably will pass over Gunsite Pass to the East side of the range. Be sure to have your OHV sticker...Fish Cop has been seen every time I have been there in the past 2 months.
