I upgrade my suspension to a BM with lots of adjustments including the length. The bike handling improves a lot and is the best investment if you want to save your sump. :thumb

    I couldn't agree more...

The only two "performance" upgrades to my S-10 is the Penske suspension and the ECUunleashed re-flash, and I think those are the two best things you can do to the bike. IMHO maybe the two best cost/benefit ratio things out there.

The ECU re-flash gets rid of all the low-end stumble, etc., smooths out the power delivery, and eliminates the throttle restriction in the first three gears... In my mind giving you the power delivery the design engineers intended before the emission compliance guys got involved.

And then the suspension upgrade pays you dividends all across the board... Smoother, more compliant ride while still being firmer and more controlled... More ground clearance, both for off-road riding and cornering clearance on the pavement... Less fore and aft pitching under acceleration and braking... Better traction, better control, better feel, and better surface feedback... It just makes everything better, period.

And even when you do both you have way less money wrapped up in the motorcycle than a BMW G/S, all while still having something more reliable and with suspension custom built just for you!!! :D

Well, that's an interesting way to gauge rebuild intervals... :rofl

But seriously, what I was trying to ask is at what mileage you think you will be pulling your forks apart, etc.?

    Thanks!

The 20,000Km+ winter tear down. I'll be having a look and if what I see gives me the shits OR if the new oil doesn't work and gives me the shits....

I'll be looking at some shock treatment.

As far as anything goes, like skyhook, multi-adjustable, wiz bang magic carpet DES error suspension goes..Fine as long as they give me the source code and the complete engineering specs and software tools with the bike.

This hidden propriety computer stuff has gone far enough I think.

The KLR owner in me senses an opportunity to pick up everyones "lightly" used
items off ebay and not sweat the small stuff.:D

I'll just get some fancy shock stickers from Jaumev. No one looks that close anyway.:deal

I also put the penske front and back with new springs, but I kept my 800 lb spring and the OEM shock, also still have the OEM fork springs, and some .95s and I never owned a KLR. :evil

    Pluric,

Too late to claim you "KLR Thriftiness" with the Tenere. You are way deep$$$$. Maybe not Penske$$
But you can't hide those wheels by Woody.

KLR ownership can go either way. Feel the need to be cheap, blame it on
the KLR. Need to splurge? Again blame it on all the years of self denial
during KLR ownership. :D Ya just can't lose.:deal

The Tenere just would not accept the duct tape wheel repair that a KLR would have
been grateful for. I'm having to make a few adjustments now living with the blue princess.

I think none of us own KLRs. The damned things last so long that they are like airplanes.

They pass through our hands so that we accumulate some stories and experience, but we are just their care takers for a while, till they go to their next person.

I'd like to make it official. My son is smart enough to let me store, maintain, register, insure and
just keep it ready for when there may be an invite for him. I did manage to get him to keep
an SV in his garage, wait I own that garage too. Damn kids.:bluduh

Oh well, ya gotta love the little darlings.:D
