Hopefully bigger engine skid plate, metal bark busters, headlight protection, bmw frame gaurds, tons of clear vinyl to protect what we can of the body work. Nothing too crazy and there's only a little bit of farkle out there at the moment. Going to go through various fasteners and locktite or wire them depending importance. We'll be doing some dyno testing with the air box mods and our new foam air filters which just showed up yesterday. Hopefully get to run on the dyno with the Remus exhaust, but time will be of the essence next week and the Remus wont show up until maybe next Friday. Might go ahead and flush out the rear air shock with nitrogen to help with consistancy throughout the temp changes and what not.
Cool! Good luck and be sure to post pics! Picking up my X this weekend. Appreciate all the informative posts by everyone! I'll probably be ordering one of those foam filters soon frpm Bobby.
Just got back from the dyno and testing various air box configurations. Max,....Your Butt Dyno was right on. Wish I had the electronic copy of the dyno chart, but I don't so here's short of it. Stock the G650XChallenge with 500 miles did 42.80 rwhp/ 37.09 lb torque With OEM Paper filter and intermediate snorkel cover removed 43.80 rwhp/ 38.13lb With Foam Filter and intermediate snorkel cover removed 44.78 rwhp/ 39.61lb So we squeezed 2hp and 2 1/2 lbs of torque out of the G6550X Challenge for $40 and a minor modification as described in MaxCool's posts earlier. The bike now has more of an evinrude outboard sound which will be overtaken by the Remus performance exhaust next week. The ride back from the Dyno I definitely noticed an improvement in throttle response and overall power across the curve as in both subsequent dyno runs showed an improvement across the board and smoothed out any dips or spikes. All in all a worth while investment of our time today!
Just letting it be, it has the ability to adjust for changes at partial open throttle aka cruise mode and these test were done with full throttle of course. Next week or the week after we look to dyno test with the remus and at that point we can us a gas analyzer to determine how the bike is really running
If you lay the dyno charts over each other, do you see a big improvement in the midrange? Cause that's what I notice most. Are you guys going to use the stock gearing on the bike, or will you be gearing it down one tooth? (highly recommended)
Hp gains were very linear at just over 1hp for the most part of the curve for each mod, however with the torque gains there is as much as a 2.5 lb gain through the middle of the powercurve with just the baffle removed and 4lb+ gain with baffle removed and foam filter, so yes there is more gain in the midrange then the peak hp gain.
My BMW dealer told me today that he´s got a unit of XCH for me. So.............i´ll get on the bike probably somewhere mid-next week. Even Akrapovic set is on catalogue, and even i ´ve ordered it before even having the bike, they tell me i´ll have to keep the original crap one, same with low seat....... Well, it has been raining the whole week, my favorite fire roads are WET, i do not see the moment to be on my brand new G650X Challenge
Hi, I just picked up a new Xchallenge. I see over at the Chain Gang fourm that there is a service bulletin for the oil dipstick. I asked my dealer this in Canada and he said it did not show for my VIN but that the fuel pump wiring bulletin applied to me. Does anyone know if this service bullentin applies to the US and Canada. Thanks. here is the post. New service bulletin about the oil dipstick on the G650X. The picture in the manual is currently incorrect. The max line should be at the bottom of the XXXX section (just next to the 'M' in the "Max" text). Also note the dipstick must be screwed in when you measure the oil level. For those in the US, ask for bulletin 00 011 07 (027) from May 2007 from your local dealer.
I was on a trip this week about 400km from home and suddenly the motor died. I pulled the clutch in and stopped, the display was off. After a sec or something the display went on again. Trip 1, Trip 2 and the clock was reset so there was an outage of the power supply. It started again and I went to the place were I spend the night. The morning after when I set the key and turned it It was normal but when I pushed the start button the display went off. I waited for a minute or something and then turned the key to off and the display went on like it normally does when I turn i on:eek1 . After the check it went off again and then it was off. If I turn it on and wait for a half a minute or something and then turn it off the same thing happens and then the display dies again. I called the number on the service card and my X was taken to the nearest BMW center and I got a rent car and drove it back the 400km back to my home. My bike has got 2400km on the total trip and to this there has been no problem. No problem to go 400km in one day either.. Seems to be a problem with some electonic divice. Does anybody have a clue of what the problem can be or heard about something similar ?
The G650X's are very sensitive to proper juice. So the battery needs to be in tip top shape and it really does not have the extra juice for any aftermarket lights or high current devices like heated gear or what have you. Hopefully it's a simple fix. While electrical can be frustrating, it either works or not typically and would rather an electrical problem then mechanical.
Thanks for the input! The strange is that I have NO "extra devices" installed at all. The only thing I have is a "slot" for the batterycharger and this slot is attached by my BMW dealer. Should not be a problem. The battery seems in perfect shape according to the display. (when the display is on for some seconds)
well, bmw dealer confirms me that my brand new G650X challenge will be ready for next wednesday. I saw the box where my G650XCH is stored, just arrived from germany..... Monday morning they will take the bike out of the box, mount wheels, battery, and will do also all the tune up service prior to delivery. Tuesday i´ll have the plate number so i ´ll pick up the bike wednesday. Unfortunately only the electrical additional plug and the lights protector will be installed as extras. I should wait for low seat and akrapovic kit undefinetely, BMW has no information about delivery date for these items. I hope to find on G650XCH something as my XR650R was in terms of weight, power, suspenssions and handling.........
I have about 250 miles on my X Challenge and from the day I took it home, the low fuel light comes on in 3-5 minutes regardless of the amount of fuel in the bike. Has anyone else had this occur or have any ideas to address it? I also have the intermittent low fuel trip display and I wonder if there is something I'm supposed to do for a reset. As noted earlier, the manual makes no menton of it. Thanks
I am a new X owner! Did all the paperwork and took it for a short spin and am picking it up tomorrow! Really fun bike! Really tall too! Motor has a lot of low end torque...I likey!!! It feels lighter than my XR400 and feels nicely balanced. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow and put some more miles on it. Also picked up a Rallye 2 pro jacket, and I am glad I did. Vents really well...and I did not even have all the vents open. I bought an Acerbis Koerta pressure suit and impact jacket a few months ago after reading Bugfnnuts Dakar posts, and will probably wear those for mostly dirt rides...but the Rallye 2 is perfect for dual sporting. May even zip out the stock armor and see if the Koerta fits underneath. Now I can do some rides with you other So. Cal. riders! XR is perfect for local stuff...but not happy on the highway! Cheers, Mark
Congrats again. Nice to know the bike is going to get used the way it was intended. Have a whole bunch of fun on it. Glad we were able to squeeze in that last little detail (cha-ching). You deserved it. See you in the A.M. Your boy, Kevin
