Now don't get it wrong. We have some country people down here. Honestly, you'd have been treated better by some country people that you were in Mobile. Even if they didn't have much, they'd offer you what they had. Oh and Birmingham had been on the top ten list for the murder rate for several years. I'm not sure if that's still true though. Of the states I've visited (mostly with the military) Alabama is lacking culture. Texas, and especially San Antonio, is amazing. Texans are proud of texas. Granted they can be annoying with that pride, but it you hang around long enough you start to understand. Oh and I haven't found a better margarita outside of San Antonio. Washington is, well it's completely different than Texas. But it has it's own vibe. I think that's what we're missing. We have no vibe, at least outside of deer season.

En route from Mobile to New Orleans my father and I switched bikes.

Initially I thought he'd have trouble adapting from a Rocket III to a Panigale, but instead it was me who had trouble adapting to the Rocket. At a walking pace the bike was a beast. But around 10mph it transformed into a flickering flame (with seemingly 200 ft/lb of torque). Good job Triumph.

I also have to admit I felt a little like Mr. Grimm from Twisted Metal on it.

I also redeemed myself with our new place in NOLA.

It has been said that cigarettes are the gateway to heroin. I'm not sure about that, but a CB 750F was my gateway drug to speed. My introduction to motorbikes began on the back of my dad's Honda. At the time ('79-80), there was nothing faster.

For a 10 year old, it was crack. I've been addicted ever since.

Only Panigale in the museum was in the parking lot.

Photobucket recently changed their site and now anything red looks like shit. Second law of thermodynamics applies to software more than any other system.

Your Mobile accomodations got me to thinking about a great court case that could be tried by Judge Judy. :D

The bike in the Barber collection that I would really like to see, is the Morbidelli. More than any other bike in the world, that's the one I'd like to ride. I can't even imagine what an 848 cc V8, on the pipe, would sound like. Maybe something shrieky like one of the Hailwood 6 cylinder Hondas.

If you've never been to the US and are reading this RR from some other country, I will tell you now--if you ever travel to America, there's no better destination than New Orleans. There's no other city in the world like it.

Anyone care to guess where I get my photogenic smiles from?

There's a pounded chicken breast under there. Despite looking a little like vomit, it was fucking incredible:

...we hit up the Ducati Dealer in New Orleans.

I dropped my bike off for some work and my dad gave me a ride back to the apt. Hadn't been on the back of a bike in a long time. That's when the flood of CB 750F memories hit me.

Then all too soon it was over. Dad had to get back to the grind in FL.

    And he was off:

I wandered the streets at night trying to capture the feeling of what New Orleans is like on film. There's nothing like it.

This is New Orleans. Surreal, gorgeous, historic, eerie. And it just gets better and better.

Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop. The bar has been serving drinks since 1772. And still is lit by candles.
