If the retainer plate fits in the slot, you should be in fine shape, CC. Just flip the retainer plate, as Kenny suggested, and the holes should line up. :nod

What he said:wink: I just hit my retainer on the grinder ever so slightly & it went right on. It has to go on far enough to go into the groove or it won't turn to line up holes. Hope this helps.

Tried to hit 2AM right on the mark. I feel I've been chancing it long enough with the loads I carry on the bike.

Interesting way of thinning the herd. I'm up past my bedtime. I need another beer.:1drink

I think that is my problem.. I can put the retainer on I can not turn it to line up with the holes... I tried tapping the sprocket onto the shaft, but that did not work... looks like i am slightly off. I will try to grind down the retainer a little...

    Thanks for the help guys!

Hey MCMA111. I hope you are healing well. How did you adjust your shifter. I've researched for hours and have not found an answer on how to raise the shift lever. I see you pulled off the cover for access. Can you just loosing the bolt and adjust it? My fancy new riding boots don't fit to shift gears. Thanks.

loosen bolt, slam flat screwdriver in slot to open gap

    pull shift lever off

    notice grooves/teeth

reinstall(with screwdriver still in slot on shift shaft with a little grease or locking compound) 2 or 3 teeth up

    take screwdriver off

    tighten bolt with locking compound

    cheers

    :D

The shift lever fits on the shift shaft that is splined so that it stays in place. Usually you need to tap a flat blade screw driver in the split of the lever to help open it up so it will slide off of the shaft. Best to mark the lever and shaft before you start moving it around so you know where you started from. The shaft has a groove all the way around it so that if the bolt lossens up the shifter doesn't just fall off. The bolt has to be removed before the shifter will slide off of the splines. I had to remove the counter shaft cover because the shift lever would hit it (not enough travel) and not allow me to shift.
